Health & Welfare:

The College contributes $12,159 toward annual premiums for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.

Basic Function/Overview:

The Mathematics and Computer Science Department consists of 40 full-time and over 50 part-time faculty. The faculty is a fully inclusive population of people from a variety of genders, educations, ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations. The mission of the Department is to provide the highest quality of mathematics and computer science education for our diverse student population in an environment that is inclusive and conducive to learning. The Department works closely with other STEM departments in order to assist our students reach their academic goals.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

1.Teach entire mathematics curriculum. Courses range from pre-algebra through differential equations, including statistics and co-requisite courses
2.Implement equity centered pedagogies to increase student success, especially for underprepared student populations
3.Participate in curriculum development and revisions, serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve instructional program
4.Participate and serve on campus wide committees/activities, and attend appropriate professional development activities, such as workshop and conferences focusing on teaching methodologies and practices
5.Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies
6.Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and actively participate in department/division meetings and committees
7.Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students, including underprepared students, through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions
8.Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract

Other Duties: Knowledge Of: Skills and Abilities: Minimum Qualifications/ Education & Experience:

A.The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1.Master’s degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics; OR
2. Bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND Master’s degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education; OR
3.The equivalent (must attach an Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form), OR
4.California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential AND transcripts must be submitted with the application.)
B.Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students
C.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English

Equivalencies:

All candidates not holding the stated minimum qualifications who are requesting consideration based on an equivalency, must complete the Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.A Master’s Degree, which includes standard algebra, analysis, and geometry/topology course work; additional course work in such subjects as discrete Mathematics and/or Statistics
2.Experience in teaching mathematics, preferably at the post-secondary level
3.Experience teaching a broad spectrum of courses, from pre-algebra through differential equations, including statistics
4.Evidence of knowledge of mathematical software, i.e. Maple, Mathematica, Minitab, etc.
5.Evidence of employing growth mindset strategies coupled with dedicated instruction to promote student success
6.Evidence of experience teaching a diverse student population, including underprepared students
7.Evidence of commitment to professional growth and development in teaching demonstrated through completing course work/attending workshops and conferences on pedagogy, experience teaching in special programs (Bridge, Corequisite, Pathways, learning communities), and/or experience working with Student Learning Outcomes and assessment

License(s) & Other Requirements:

The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract position that begins in the 2019-20 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.

Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live scan services shall be borne by the candidate.
