Job Details

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior. The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School which consists of the departments of: Applied Health, Educational Leadership, Psychology, and Teaching and Learning as well as provides leadership for the SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School, a University community partnership.

Responsibilities for the Dean include developing, implementing, and monitoring the teaching, research and service missions of the School; serving as chief administrative officer in all aspects of the school including strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management; increasing student enrollment by supporting recruitment and retention activities; administering the policies established by the University and School; supporting educator preparation programs that serve the diverse needs of the Metro-East region; demonstrating a clear commitment to community engagement, partnership development, interdisciplinary collaborations, and enhancement of the national visibility of programs; enhancing the School’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of its operation; maintaining accreditation in existing programs; initiating and successfully implementing fundraising and development plans; and facilitating communication within the School, between the School and the rest of the University, and with the public. Additionally, the Dean serves as a liaison between the School and local school districts, state Departments of Education, professional organizations, members of the business community, and other relevant entities.

Since 1958, the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior has prepared teachers and administrators who are widely sought after by school districts in the region. Today, these education programs are still going strong, and the school now has a thriving and more diverse set of programs that prepare future professionals in fields such as public health, nutrition, psychology, speech-language pathology, exercise science, and college student personnel administration.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctorate from an accredited university; demonstrated administrative and scholarly capabilities; demonstrated a commitment to teaching, research and public service: experience with, and a commitment to, diverse educational contexts; experience managing complex budgets; and successful fundraising and/or development experience. The candidate must be qualified for academic appointment and eligible for tenure as an associate or full professor in one of the departments of the School.

Terms of Appointment
Continuing, 12-month, 100% appointment. The start date for the position will be in July 1, 2019.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits package included.
