Wichita State University seeks an experienced, dynamic, and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the W. Frank Barton School of Business.  This senior administrative appointment will assume leadership of a very strong and diverse academic unit, with a growing national reputation. 

The Barton School is building on its success as a nationally recognized source of entrepreneurial business leaders for the global marketplace.  The School is AACSB-accredited in business and accounting. The Barton School offers 10 undergraduate majors (BBAs), as well as 5 graduate degrees including master’s degrees in business administration (MBA and Executive MBA), economics (MA), accounting (MACC), and global supply chain management (MS). There are 8 academic and outreach centers/institutes:  Center for Economic Development and Business Research, Center for Economic Education, Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for International Business Advancement, Center for Management Development, Center for Real Estate, Koch Global Trading Center, and the Institute for the Study of Economic Growth. Ties between the Wichita business community and the Barton School are particularly strong, providing faculty and students with opportunities and resources that enhance teaching and provide applied learning experiences, including an active cooperative education experience for students. 

The University is located in a diverse metropolitan area of approximately 640,000, located in the I-35 corridor.  The economic base of the region is aviation industries and health care, and a higher percentage of Wichita’s metropolitan GDP is derived from exports than any other metropolitan area in the country.  Wichita State University is taking an active role in diversifying the region’s economy and enhancing the quality of life. 

The Dean reports directly to the Provost and serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Business. The primary responsibility of the Dean is to advance the academic quality and stature of the School that is student-centered, innovation driven, and entrepreneurial focused. This requires a visionary leader who is committed to strategic planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical leadership, and who is skilled in human and financial resource management. The Dean will assist with the advancement of WSU as an innovation university by focusing on increasing enrollment, workforce development, applied learning, funded research, tech transfer, and private fundraising. Close collaboration with on/off campus industry partners will be essential.

The Barton School of Business seeks a visionary leader to guide the college through a period of growth. The new Dean will arrive at Wichita State University at an extremely exciting time in its history as the university embarks on an ambitious campus expansion plan including the construction of a new building to house the Business School.  Wichita State has an aggressive agenda in critical areas of supporting and enhancing the diversity of faculty, staff, and students, enhancing academic quality, enrollment growth, research and innovation, technology transfer, and the quality of student life.

As online learning becomes an integral part of the growth of Wichita State University, the Dean will advocate for the development of high quality online and flexible courses and programs within the Barton School of Business.  The Dean will ensure continuous improvement of faculty through professional development to support the quality of curriculum and instruction in face-to-face, blended, and online modalities.  In support of WSU’s mission, the Dean will advocate for and incorporate university systems and processes that support faculty and students both on-campus and off-campus.  More information about the Barton School of Business can be found at www.wichita.edu/barton.
