General Statement of Job:
The Dean of Continuing, Professional, and Workforce Education provides visionary, results oriented leadership in delivering quality educational opportunities for lifelong learners in Hidalgo and Starr Counties. Responsible for developing, managing and administering six community service components: Adult Basic Education, Career Pathway Training, Customized Corporate Training and Economic Development, Personal Development, Professional Conferences, and Professional Education and Development. Responsible for the staff members and part-time instructors serving the community through 11 Institutes: Arts and Design, Business and Corporate Training, College and Career Preparation, Conferences and Workshops, Education, Healthcare, Online Training, Police Academy, Real Estate, Technology and Trades, and Truck and Bus Driving.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education opportunities throughout the district.
  2. Develops, recommends, and administers the annual department budget.
  3. Fosters collaborative partnerships with the community and College.
  4. Develops annual department staffing plan.
  5. Interfaces with key College officers to integrate noncredit Continuing Education programs with credit programs on campus.
  6. Coordinates Continuing Education activities with College personnel, community agencies and organizations.
  7. Responsible for the operations of all Continuing Education programs and implementation of Continuing Education calendar with credit calendar.
  8. Responsible for the development and implementation of federal, state and local grants and contracts.
  9. Monitors and interprets inventory lists and controls, enrollment data, course attendance records and personnel timesheets.
  10. Facilitates the purchasing of suitable diagnostic tests, textbooks, materials, and other instructional resources.
  11. Leads the strategic planning process to establish realistic goals, action plans, and institutional effectiveness (IE) plans.
  12. Submits required reports to college administrators and regulatory bodies.
  13. Spearheads marketing and promotional activities in cooperation with the Public Relations and marketing department.
  14. Ensures compliance with all regulating bodies.
  15. Serves as a member of college councils, committees, and task forces; represents the college at conferences and meetings.
  16. Identifies new sources of revenue and funding.
  17. Develops strategic blueprints.
  18. Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management.
  19. Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, and evaluates Continuing, Professional, and Workforce Education departmental staff.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Master’s Degree in Education or related field required.
  2. At least five (5) years of adult education, workforce training, or relevant experience required.
  3. At least two (2) years of progressive administrative/supervisory experience required.
  4. Solid background in program development, operations, management and marketing required.
