Position Summary: The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to hire a part-time (75% effort) Research Instructor (fixed term) faculty member. The successful applicant will act as the study coordinator for a randomized trial involving patients with depression that compares outcomes for those assigned treatment by a pharmacogenetic test vs. those receiving care based on best practice guidelines. The research coordinator will be responsible for recruiting participants, scheduling patients for study procedures, and handling the day-to-day management of the study including overseeing the process from intake through participation, maintaining the study binders and entering data into the database. S/he will help to develop budgets, and track expenditures, including payments to study doctors and participants. S/he will participate in the writing of annual reports and IRB protocols. Duties may include performing diagnostic procedures to evaluate patients for study qualification; providing assessments and clinical procedures while recording data for review; collecting patient histories; developing therapeutic relationship with subjects; ordering of lab and diagnostic procedures per protocol; providing patient/family education; entering data entry and reporting adverse events. In addition, the study coordinator may handle other regulatory processes (IRB), network with physicians and patient advocacy groups to ensure recruitment goals are met, independently perform data analysis, assist with paper and grant writing, and occasionally assist with other human research projects with healthy human participants. We are seeking candidates with experience in clinical or basic research related to psychiatric conditions and who demonstrate excellent collaboration and leadership skills.

Education Requirements: Applicants for the Research Instructor position must have masters in a relevant field.
Qualification and Experience: Prior experience with clinical research, and data management and IRBs; patient enrollment experience, good organizational skills. Prior clinical trial experience. Experience with study coordination, and work with mental health projects is preferred.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
