Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Textile Design (TD). The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments. Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and promoting student learning in the design of textiles and textile products. Our College faculty have established groundbreaking interdisciplinary centers and institutes: The Nonwovens Institute and the Textile Protection and Comfort Center. They have led the formation of the emerging Forensic Sciences Institute. The Zeis Textiles Extension department is meeting a high-demand for professional training and fabrication and testing services by offering programs for entrepreneurs and start-up companies as well as multinational corporations. The Wilson College of Textiles offers unparalleled hands-on, science-based textile education through two departments, Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management and Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science. Students receive one-on-one mentoring from award-winning faculty and conduct both undergraduate and graduate research in more than 200,000 square feet of state-of-the-art teaching, research, manufacturing and collaborative spaces. Students gain valuable work experience through summer internships, embark on international experiences across 30 countries and six continents, and leverage academic and experiential real world learning experiences via our industry partnerships and a 9,000-person strong alumni network. Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management NC State's Wilson College of Textiles, and the Department of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management, prepares future leaders for the textile, apparel, home, furniture, fashion and retail industries. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, our undergraduate and graduate programs incorporate global marketplace dynamics with a strategic management focus. Our graduates incorporate art/design and science/technology with management concepts in creative problem-solving. Our program is equipped with access and experiences utilizing the latest industry technologies. The majority of the students have an enriching and intensive study abroad experience. Our program faculty works closely with industry partners, including the department's Industry Advisory Board, to develop academic and experiential real-world learning experiences. Essential Job Duties: The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Textile Design (TD). The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments. Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and promoting student learning in the design of textiles and textile products. The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments. The successful candidate must be able to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, laboratory and studio equipment, and staff. Proficiency in computer-aided design tools, creative and entrepreneurial thinking, and the use of design technologies and textile materials to create prototypical products for the global market are desirable. The candidate is expected to have a strong interest in applying their expertise to the current and emerging areas of research related to fibers/fiber-based products, as well as synergistic interdisciplinary collaborations across multiple disciplines and institutions in close partnership with industry and government. Faculty members in TATM have the responsibility for teaching, research, extension and engagement, and service. Dissemination of research to academic and industry audiences is expected. This dissemination should be balanced and can take the form of published works and/or juried exhibitions. Faculty members are responsible for seeking extramural funds for teaching development and research. All faculty members are expected to be involved in the operation of the department, college, and university by serving in various capacities (for example, on committees, boards, panels, task forces, and commissions). The faculty member's Statement of Faculty Responsibilities describes the level of engagement in the areas of responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in the mentorship of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We prefer an individual who is dynamic in the classroom and is student-centric. Active participation in academic advising of students as well as in the assessment/accreditation process is also expected. The successful candidate is required to teach courses in the TD program, while the typical teaching load may be two courses per semester with significant variance based on credit hours to account for studio hours and pro. Demonstrated capability of collaborating with industry partners on projects and research is a plus, as are competencies in design fundamentals, and visual presentation. Service: We seek an individual who will be proactive and enthusiastic about actively recruiting and retaining TATM undergraduate and graduate students, with a commitment to improving access to higher education for students from underrepresented groups. In addition, TATM expects active service on departmental, college, and university committees and involvement in professional societies and organizations.

Minimum Education/Experience: PhD, MFA or terminal degree in the discipline from a recognized university or equivalent terminal academic qualifications. In some cases based upon an individuals qualifications the rank of Instructor may be considered.
