This position will be working as a part of an extremely dynamic team of professionals supporting all aspects of the School of Medicine and the creation of the infrastructure, process, and procedures for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. The team works from an interdependent model of practice and we are looking for someone who thrives in a highly challenging role within a high functioning team-based environment.

In this role, you will provide leadership and facilitation in the resolution of highly strategic and sensitive issues or projects of schoolwide, regional, statewide, cross-entity, or cross-functional scope and will report directly to the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine Dean and CEO. You will act as an advisor and thought partner by leading teams to identify, track, and measure issues, project plans, and associated risks for resolution and consolidation, providing expert-level consulting capabilities to the functional area to realize the Dean and CEO’s strategic objectives. You will also direct all aspects of the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine Board of Directors relations and board services and support activities and serve as a liaison between the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine Board Chair, the Dean, and CEO. You will be responsible for leading teams to gather data, researching and consolidating issues, summarizing information, and making recommendations with relevant stakeholders to advance the Dean and CEO’s agenda. You will routinely and proactively represent the Dean and CEO’s positions in meetings and committees and in developing integrated functional projects, communication plans, and scorecards to measure effectiveness of initiatives (within established parameters). In addition, you will manage functional area operations including Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine Board services, policy development for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, and strategic planning.

Qualifications Include:

  • At least ten years of experience in consulting, operations, or project management
  • At least five years of management experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with Boards preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field; a master’s degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in a Chief of Staff role or a similar role
  • Experience with business process improvement and the tools and data requirements for supporting an effective business process improvement project
  • Demonstrated ability to determine key business issues and develop appropriate action plans from multidisciplinary perspectives
  • Demonstrated performance in strategic/operational analysis and planning, analytical techniques, and financial and market assessments
  • Proven leadership skills in project management and consulting with the ability to exhibit efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, and be results oriented
  • The ability to exercise good judgment and political astuteness
  • Superior communication, consulting, facilitation, negotiation, conflict management, problem resolution, change management skills, and consensus building skills
  • The ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities in managing a wide range of projects
  • The ability to structure, drive, and execute complex multi-disciplinary issues to closure with minimal direction
  • The proven ability to effectively manage in ambiguous situations with minimal direction
  • Proficient in team building, conflict resolution, group interaction, project management, and budget management
  • The ability to lead professionals and manage others through influence and collaboration
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills • Expert knowledge (broad expertise or unique knowledge) of policies, practices, and systems
  • The ability to develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards
  • The ability to develop new applications based on professional principles and theories
  • Applies complex principles, theories, and concepts • The ability to contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas
