Nature of Work

The Instructional Designer administers Brightspace (D2L) and manages integrations, such as plagiarism detection software, test proctoring systems, and textbook publisher integrations. The Instructional Designer provides technical support to faculty and students in online and blended course offerings. The Instructional Designer works closely with the Director of eLearning to provide instructional design support for faculty. The Instructional Designer works closely with the Director, Deans, Department Chairs, Student Services, Academic Support, and Technology Services to identify and implement technologies and best practices of eLearning for face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses. The Instructional Designer assists the Director with conducting assessment and evaluation of activities relevant to the programs including faculty training, support, and course improvement. The Instructional Designer works collaboratively with the Director and academic leaders and faculty to create and deliver innovative, high quality, and technology-enhanced instruction that promotes academic excellence, enhances student learning, and increases access. The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of eLearning.

Essential Duties
The Instructional Designer is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of D2L, the college's Learning Management System (LMS).
· Administer and oversee the daily operations of D2L.
· Enroll and manage users, create courses and terms, manage institutional settings, and implement third-party integrations.
· Manage the integration between D2L and Banner, the College's Student Information System.
· Assist with designing and developing customized documentation for D2L.
· Assist with support for course design and implementation of eLearning strategies in face-to-face, online, and blended courses.
· Assist with technology orientations and professional development for faculty, staff, and students.
· Report production down/production critical support needs to ITS Customer Services at the University System of Georgia.
· Test new service packs and version upgrades.
· Research new technologies and use data to support and inform decision making about direction, growth projections, service improvement, and planning.
· Serve on college committees.
· Serve on the eLearning committee.
· Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Training
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
· Experience administering a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Brightspace (D2L), Moodle, or Canvas.
· Experience working with Banner or a similar Student Information System.
· Experience providing technical support as well as behind-the-scenes server support.
· Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications and Training
· Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field.
· Experience working with web conferencing systems such as Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.
· Experience working with integrations such as Respondus, Turnitin and Pearson Mastering.
· Experience in writing and creating documentation for technical procedures.
· Knowledge of accessibility and 508 compliance issues as related to content creation for online courses.
· Knowledge of Quality Matters or another nationally-recognized process for quality assurance for online education.
