Position: Product Development Manager- Kitchen Tools & Food Prep Product
Job is located in Manhatten, NYC or Eatontown, NJ
The Product Development Manager leads, manages and plans project timelines for all New Product Development with the U.S. & overseas Teams from Concept to Store Shelf.
Design New Product
Function: Define criteria for new products
Duties: a. Awareness of Market & Fashion Trends
b. Locate designers and identify design needs
c. Gather ideas
d. Set Project Plan with Milestones
e. Evaluate ideas and concepts from design team
f. Assign designs to vendors for Sourcing & Costing
Function: Monitor design through store shelf
a. Set up production milestones in PLM (Project Logistics Management)
b. Set up quality requirements for each stage of production
c. Obtain image rendering from Overseas
d. Ensure images are current within the system using correct identification
e. Assign overseas office to complete 2D & 3Ds of all new designs
f. Ensure 2D & 3Ds are current within the system using correct identification
g. Arrange prototypes to be made overseas.
h. Review & provide feedback for all prototypes received.
i. Ensure spec sheets are created for all new items by our overseas team
j. Ensure spec sheets are saved within our system
k. Gather product spec feedback from factories
l. Create specific protocol for production process
m. Provide specs and samples for factory
n. Obtain Pre-Production Samples for approval prior to full production
o. Obtain Du-Pro Samples for approval during production
p. Monitor Field Inspectors to ensure consistency of inspections q. Maintain master product development list
r. Maintain master current product list
s. Maintain master reference number list
t. Maintain master new production tracking list
u. Maintain master sample order tracking list
v. Maintain master sample inventory list
w. Know competition's product for comparison
*PLM (Project Logistics Management)- our internal database used to store/track all our product data & projects
Function: Work with graphic designer for the creating of packaging
a. Provide graphic designer with design brief based on sales and marketing directions
b. Follow up with graphic designer until completion
c. Coordinate the packaging samples to be made overseas
d. Ensure packaging from overseas is correct
Project Planning & Management
Function: Create Milestones & Cross-functional Steps to Deliver New Product On-Time
a. Track responsibilities with different functions
b. Identify any steps which jeopardize the launch date
c. Take immediate corrective action on any fallout of timeline
d. Meet with Sales & Marketing Weekly to confirm "On-Time" Delivery
Function: Create specifications that meet or exceed Industry Standards
a. Set quality standards for the product
b. Maintain information regarding factory capabilities
c. Coordinate with sales Customer Requirements and protocols
d. Maintain updated Quality Standard Chart as product evolves
e. Review, Approve & Maintain Preproduction, DuPro and Production samples
for all product.
Function: Work with overseas staff to source and develop new factories, better pricing, better relationships.
a. Travel Overseas to source new factories and build relationships overseas
b. Communicate our standards, needs and procedures with the factories
c. Negotiate Pricing with our factories
Interaction with Sales & Marketing
Function: Support Sales & Marketing
a. Confirm Customer Requirements with Sales
b. Define Project Scope - Sample Reqmts, Images, Multiple Renditions
c. Setup Team responsibilities and timelines - U.S. & Overseas
d. Update marketing on all new designs for feedback
e. Provide marketing with call out for product
f. Support sales with image and Samples
g. Support Trade Shows with Samples
h. Attend tradeshows such as Chicago Housewares Show & NYTT
i. Receive input- Call reports, Customer requirements
j. Plan-o-gram planning, pattern selection
Manage U.S. & P.D. Overseas Staffs
Function: Provide leadership and management guidance to both Staffs
Duties: a. Monitor workload daily - individually
b. Discuss urgent issues with Overseas team and Overseas counterpart
c. Identify and communicate Red Alert issues for Team focus
d. Conduct Performance Appraisals - Monthly
e. Provide advisory guidance to staff on exceptions
f. Motivate staff with recognition of "job well done"
g. Support our overseas team with images & written instructions to create
• Technical comprehension of the Design and Development Process
• Ability to work in a multi-culture environment facilitating workload to U.S. & Overseas locations.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate staff, inspire teamwork and take a leadership role.
• Understanding of project management methodology.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven mentoring, supervisory, and team-building skills.
• Ability to solve problems with keen instincts and organizational experience.
• At least 4-6 years of Product Management expertise
• Good negotiating skills
• Experience Sourcing Product from Overseas
• Experience in Kitchen/Food Prep Product Preferred
