Professor/Associate Professor- Dept Head Rural Sociology
The newly formed Department of Rural Sociology seeks to hire a mid-career specialist in Sociology. The successful candidate is expected to build and guide the development of a strong, new department that currently houses the disciplines of Sociology, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. The new department will be integral to the continued development and revision of the Social and Community Development concentration in the unique Rural Studies baccalaureate program. In addition to teaching upper division courses that specifically address issues appropriate for the Social and Community Development concentration such as rural sociology, rural demography, social policy for rural communities, and quantitative and qualitative research methods, the successful candidate will provide leadership for faculty to develop new upper division courses that support the program.
This is a 12-month, tenure track faculty position carrying the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
Other responsibilities include seeking and designing opportunities for student internships and creating job placement opportunities.
Location: Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is a residential state college located in Tifton, Georgia. Tifton is a progressive community known for its quality of life environment and was recently named as one of the 100 Best Small Towns in America. The college has a student body of approximately 3400 students and a teaching faculty of approximately 100.
The strong candidate will have demonstrated administrative experience in program development, working with interdisciplinary programs and faculties, and fund raising to support the program. Evidence of successful teaching and scholarly activity is essential.
