The College of New Jersey's Office of Student Accounts is accepting applications to fill a permanent full-time Student Accounts Assistant position. The Office of Student Accounts serves students, faculty and staff of The College of New Jersey community by billing student tuition, fees, room and board, processing refunds, issuing the College ID card, establishing TCNJ GetIt Card accounts, providing parking services through the sale or issuance of parking permits. The Office of Student Accounts maintains all financial transactions recorded on students, including registration fees, housing, meal plan charges and other various fees; payments and financial aid awards. The department is also responsible for the collection of all student related accounts receivable.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Accounts, the Student Accounts Assistant is responsible for providing analytical, administrative, and programmatic support for the Office of Student Accounts.  This position will assist with the administration of Special Programs (Third Party Contracts, Waivers, and other programs), providing superior customer service, transactional processing in PAWS, Blackboard, and BossCars, reconciliations, issue resolution, and documentation.  Additionally, the Student Accounts Assistant will serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Accounts and all internal and external groups, as they relate and interact with the student-oriented systems and data. The Student Account Assistant will be responsible for the administration and oversight of the college’s insurance programs along with our provider.

The Student Accounts Assistant is responsible for transactional updates to PAWS Student Financials and common modules, Blackboard and BossCars, processing daily Higher One/ PAWS SF system interfaces to post credit card and ACH payments, processing routine postings to Blackboard Transact and BossCars and systems testing, implementation, updates, and support of business processes and related enhancements.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or closely related field. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.

  • Knowledge of computers and ability to utilize a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with financial system queries.

  • One (1) year of experience in a professional office environment providing exceptional in-person and over the phone customer service.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in a higher education environment in a Student Accounts department highly preferred.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a professional office environment providing exceptional in-person and over the phone customer service.

This position is a New Jersey Civil Service position with the state title Program Assistant (A). The starting salary for this position is Range 16, step 1, $41,230.15.  It is included for membership in the Communication Workers of America (CWA) bargaining unit. Permanent appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a 4-month probationary period to access the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Salary for an internal candidate will be determined in accordance with Civil Service rules.

Under a new residency bill signed into law by Governor Chris Christie, any individual hired on, or after September 1, 2011, will be required to establish a principal residence in New Jersey unless their position is exempt. New employees will have a full 365 days to establish such residence, from the effective date of hire. Any new employee who believes that they have a critical need to live outside of New Jersey, or that a move to a permanent residence within the state would constitute a hardship, may request an exemption from the provisions of the law by appealing to a five-member committee to be established by the State for the purpose of hearing such appeals.
