Dickinson College's Department of Africana Studies invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2017-2018 academic year. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Africana/African American/Black Studies or Ethnic Studies and will teach five courses during the year. These courses will include Introduction to Africana Studies and four intermediate and upper-level classes in the candidate's area of specialization. We are particularly interested in scholars whose teaching and research focus on the Black urban experience, African Diaspora studies (especially Afro-European, Afro-Canadian, Afro-South American, and Afro-Latinx cultures), Black aesthetics and performance, or Black intellectual histories. Evidence of effective teaching and scholarly productivity is highly valued. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate. Applicants should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment.
