General Summary: The Social Media Specialist will be responsible to build, grow and track EMU's social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and Pinterest. Within this role, the Social Media Specialist will refine and create university social media strategies, tactics and contests; find, create and post relevant content daily, including some evenings, weekends and holidays; build relationships with key university personnel, students, alumni, and the community; and improve image and brand perceptions among key audiences, in particular generating increased interest and engagement from prospective students. In addition, the Social Media Specialist will manage college social media accounts and assist direct supervisor to integrate social media plans in EMU's overarching integrated marketing campaign across all mediums, including pay-per click, landing pages, online advertising, virtual tour, BLOGEMU.com, campus digital boards, billboards, radio and TV advertising, Apple and Android phone app, etc.

The position will support the broader needs of EMU, University Marketing and the Division of Communications, including counsel and work on strategic and tactical management of communication campaigns as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and initiate strategy for growing the number of Facebook "Likes" and Twitter "Followers" on the official Eastern Michigan University and Swoop sites to ensure our numbers reach and exceed the midpoint of the Mid-American Conference member universities.

Grow subscribers and views on EMU YouTube channel to reach and exceed midpoint of Mid-American Conference member universities.

Lead brainstorming of new and creative social media growth strategies.

Use strong analytical ability to improve key audience experiences across all social media channels, in particular Snapchat.

Improve social media messaging, look and feel, appeal, and overall effectiveness.

Initiate and manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities.

Look for, identify and immediately report negative posts or threats.

Help respond to crisis situations and work closely with the crisis communications team on the coordinated response.

Oversee and grow EMU college social media pages.

Excel at building and maintaining relationships, online and off.

Ensure accurate and timely delivery of all social media content across channels.

Work collaboratively and constructively with other communications personnel in the Division of Communications, including Media Relations, Integrated Content and WEMU-FM.

Work collaboratively and constructively with personnel in other areas of the campus community. Supplemental Information: ECLS: PT
GRADE: 08 Qualifications: Four-year accredited college or university degree in marketing, communications, media relations or related field. Advanced degree a plus.

Requires 3-5 years of experience in a university, corporate or agency setting, focused on social media strategy and content development.

Exceptional and proven writing, editing, listening, story telling and relevant content development skills.

Ability to take and post relevant and quality photos and videos daily.

Experience working in a diverse environment.

Willing and able to adjust to multiple and changing demands, shifting priorities.

Broad knowledge of social media and true understanding of what it takes to drive relevant traffic across multiple social platforms.

Extremely organized person who will manage at the lightning pace of social media.

Meticulous attention to detail. Every item is an official statement from the brand and we will need you to spot and correct errors in content and creative.

Demonstrated experience in measuring and reporting social media results.

Willingness to update, monitor and track social media on evenings and weekends.

Demonstrated success in conceptualizing, planning, placing, tracking, analyzing and leading major social media campaigns.

Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, identify trends and insights, and makes recommendations.
