Colorado Mountain College (CMC) is a local district college with 11 campus locations spanning 12,000 square miles of the picturesque central Rockies. CMC offers five bachelor’s degrees, 54 associate degrees, and 77 certificate programs as well as on-line degree programs, a wide range of non-credit and life-long learning courses, and extensive dual enrollment opportunities through close partnerships with dozens of school districts. CMC prepares Colorado’s workforce through apprenticeships, internships, experiential, and outdoor learning in beautiful mountain settings.

Colorado Mountain College is located in Steamboat Springs, Rifle, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs (downtown), Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Aspen, the Vail Valley, Dillon, Breckenridge, Leadville and Buena Vista. Of these locations, our three campuses in Spring Valley, Leadville and Steamboat Springs are residential. The college’s Central Services administrative offices, which serve all other locations, are located in downtown Glenwood Springs.

Colorado Mountain College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Rifle, Colorado

Rifle is in a spectacular natural high desert setting with a rich western history.  Founded by early pioneers, Rifle is known as a place where the “old west” meets the “new west” with a variety of outdoor activities, and is known for its oil shale reserves, natural gas, and the state’s largest solar array.

The main campus in Rifle includes energy programs such as process technology and alternative energy, petroleum technology as well as other offerings in fields such as real estate and many others.  The Rifle campus also supports an early education center and delivers concurrent enrollment courses throughout western Garfield County. The campus hosts a satellite location in downtown Rifle offering ESL, GED, fitness, and other life-long learning courses.

The Position

Under the general direction of the College President and in close coordination with the college’s Chief Operating Officer & Chief of Staff, the Vice President and Campus Dean provides executive level vision, innovation, and overall campus leadership to ensure the success of students, employees and the community. This position works closely with the college’s executive team as well as internal and external constituent groups to further CMC’s mission and vision, including responding to the changing needs and demographics of local communities.  The position oversees all campus operations, adhering to college-wide policy and working in close collaboration with central office leadership and departments.  The incumbent is accountable for campus compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations; for ensuring that operations and programming are consistent with college-wide practice and procedures; and for providing effective engagement with community stakeholders, including K-12 school officials, business and non-profit leaders, elected and government officials, alumni, and others.  The position is responsible for the oversight, direction, and operations of any and all service sites.  In collaboration and coordination with the CMC Foundation, the Vice President and Campus Dean will engage in friend- and fundraising in the local community and contribute to college-wide projects and campaigns from time to time.

This position may be combined with other central or college-wide roles and responsibilities.

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate success working within diverse communities; establishing access and student success programs; and partnering with government and community leaders to provide educational solutions to community needs. Knowledge of and experience with innovative approaches to traditional education challenges is highly desirable. Experience in specific programs offered at this campus a plus.

Master’s degree from an accredited institution required, doctorate or terminal degree preferred.

Minimum 7 years of relevant executive or senior level experience or equivalent. 10 years preferred.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of current principles, practices, and trends in leadership, organizational development and management; higher education budgeting and fiscal oversight; federal laws, codes and regulations covering higher educational institutions; trends and developments in technology which have campus and/or district-wide implications.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

  • lead the campus and service sites through multi-faceted opportunities
  • facilitate cooperation through discussion and consensus-building
  • analyze problems
  • identify alternative solutions
  • project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational goals
  • implement organizational/reorganization policy to effect a functional administrative delivery system; identify and respond to public and Board of Trustees issues and concerns
  • provide leadership in the areas of integrity and ethics in order to implement institutional goals;
  • communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties

Candidates with knowledge of leading post-secondary teaching and learning practices and experience in an academic discipline may be given preference.

The anticipated hiring salary range is: $96,000 – $106,000.
