GENERAL DUTIES: Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

CONTRACT TITLE: Assistant Professor

FLSA: Exempt

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Department of Geography, Hunter College, City University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with specialization in Geographic Information Science to start September 2012. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program; teach undergraduate and graduate introductory and advanced courses in GIS; mentor both undergraduate and graduate students; contribute to our growing GIS certificate program; be part of developing a professional MGIS program to complement our MA in Geography; and participate in the Ph.D. program in Earth and Environmental Science at the CUNY Graduate Center. We seek a candidate with spatial database expertise and innovative ideas in geocomputation, apps-based environments, and geospatial modeling. Topical area of GIS application is open.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in geography or appropriate related field required by time of appointment. Qualified non-geographers are welcome to apply.

COMPENSATION: $57,616 - $74,133; commensurate with experience.

Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
