Hastings College, a selective, private, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) and Dean of Students, an appointment that will become effective on or about July 1, 2012.

With a tradition of service to young people from Nebraska, Colorado and the surrounding region, Hastings has arrived at a pivotal point in its history – a time of succession and transition with abundant opportunities to reveal a distinctive identity among America’s liberal arts colleges. This vice presidency and deanship offers a compelling opportunity for seasoned and innovative leadership.

Founded in 1882, Hastings College enrolls 1220 students and offers 63 majors and 12 pre-professional programs. The College confers two undergraduate degrees, the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Music and one graduate degree, the Master of Arts in Teaching. The student-faculty ratio is 13 to one, and the average class size is 16.5. Among the first schools in the nation to adopt the 4-1-4 calendar, the College continues to offer a January Term between regular semesters. The College’s picturesque campus sits on 120 beautifully-landscaped acres in the town of Hastings, an active and welcoming central Nebraska community of more than 25,000.

Hastings has earned national recognition for the quality of its faculty, the strength of its academic and co-curricular programs, its commitment to community service, and for the success of its student-athletes, in the classroom and on the field. NSSE scores from first-year students and seniors place Hastings above the regional and national averages in all five of NSSE’s benchmark categories.

The College’s next VPSA will join a dynamic new president, Dennis C. Trotter, an evolving senior leadership team, and a collegial and engaged faculty and staff in developing a contemporary vision for the liberal arts at Hastings through the integration of the academic, social, residential, and career curricular elements into a holistic, unified experience. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership experience, deep knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student affairs, a focus on student outcomes, an open and transparent style, strong management and communication skills, and high energy and integrity to his/her leadership role. With support from all of Hastings’ constituencies, the next VPSA will be expected to play a role in enhancing an already affirming student life environment, developing and sustaining an effective student affairs team, creating and implementing the College’s comprehensive long-range strategic plan, reinforcing the College’s sense of community, and fostering internal and external connectivity.

A search prospectus, with additional information about the College, the major attractions of the position, the key leadership agenda for the VPSA, and application instructions, may be found at agbsearch.com/current-searches and at www.hastings.edu. In order to ensure full consideration, applications must be received by March 31, 2012. Nominations and applications must be submitted electronically in MS Word or PDF to HastingsVPSA@agbsearch.com.
