Job Description: This position manages the research and reporting-related functions of the Office of Institutional Research under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research. In this capacity, the Institutional Research (IR) Manager works closely with the Director to develop and maintain departmental operations that improve efficiencies, quality, and timeliness for deliverables. The IR Manager supervises Research Analysts as well as institutional reporting to regulatory bodies, utilizes large databases, provides leadership as directed on college wide cross-functional teams for strategic initiatives, and works in coordination with multiple departments of the College in the execution of the functions of the Office of Institutional Research. The projects and reporting activities supervised by this position directly impact institutional decision-making. Therefore, the IR Manager will build and maintain training programs for new staff as well as identify professional development opportunities for more tenured staff to ensure reported information is reliable and valid.
Duties of Position: Develop and manage the structure and processes for the documentation of standard operating procedures, the design and administration of training for less experienced team members, and quality assurance.
Improve and manage the process of coordinating and responding to internal data requests for use in conducting informed organizational and institutional planning, evaluation, operational improvements, predictive analysis and decision making; makes recommendations concerning College policies.
Plan and supervise research projects involving multiple College and external personnel.
Manage the process of coordinating and responding to external data requests from governmental agencies and other associations (including IPEDS and ICCB; accreditation and licensure requests; and other miscellaneous sources) to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with reporting requirements.
Manage research projects undertaken to support program review and prepares the annual Program Review Report and Results report submitted to ICCB.
Manage data submission and research projects related to such major institutional initiatives as Achieving the Dream and the Community College Survey of Student Engagement as well as research and data analyses requested by various College constituencies.
Provide decision making, analytical support, and advice to faculty and other College personnel in areas of research design, testing, outcomes assessment, and statistics to support organizational and institutional research initiatives.
Analyze research needs of the College and develop and/or recommend systematic, comprehensive approaches to meet those needs.
Supervise and evaluate the work of Research Analysts in the Office of Institutional Research (including preparation of research proposals and writing of research results) to ensure consistency, accuracy, and effective dissemination of research findings.
Retrieve and analyze data from the College database using specialized business intelligence and statistical software; Continuously seek out new methods of maximizing technology in analysis and planning and evaluate appropriateness of new research techniques for institutional research functions.
Represent the Director and the Office of Institutional Research on institutional committees and task groups as appropriate. Provide leadership on college wide cross-functional teams dealing with strategic initiatives as directed.
Advise the Director regarding research-related expenditures and the availability resources for research activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements: Master's degree in statistics or social sciences. Doctorate preferred.
Experience Requirements: Minimum 3 years working in an office that handles large quantities of data. Demonstrated experience using statistical software (e.g., SPSS or SAS), business intelligence software (e.g., Cognos, Argos, etc.), and Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word) is required. Experience with the Banner ERP system and the Cognos business intelligence tool is preferred. Experience with geographic systems such as Arc View and project management software a plus. Supervisory experience required. Previous experience with reporting to the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and the U.S. Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) strongly preferred.
