Governors State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost/VPAA. Review of candidate materials will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Initial screening is expected to be completed by April 1, 2013. The starting date will be in the summer 2013.
Founded in 1969, Governors State University (GSU) as a comprehensive public university with a special mandate for innovation, GSU is now in a renaissance period. The university has created the Dual Degree Program (DDP), a nationally recognized partnership with ten Chicago-area community colleges to encourage full-time study toward the completion of the Associate Degree at the community college followed by a two-year pathway to university graduation. In August 2014, GSU will admit its first freshman class of 270 full-time, day-time students, who will be grouped in cohorts to study a state-of-the-art core curriculum. In addition to providing undergraduates with the choice of beginning at GSU or at a community college, GSU also offers graduate level courses at the masters and doctoral levels. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC), the mission of Governors State emphasizes teaching, scholarship, and service, making a high quality university education affordable and accessible to a culturally and economically diverse student body. Conveniently located 35 miles south of downtown Chicago, "where the prairie meets the city," Governors State University serves more than 6,000 students on its scenic 760 acre campus. Offering more than 60 degree and certificate programs through its Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Education, Health and Human Services, GSU is moving forward to develop new majors in accordance with its academic master plan. GSU will open its first student residence, Prairie Place, in the summer of 2014.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Governors State University community is looking for a new Provost/VPAA who possesses the following qualifications:
-- A Terminal degree
-- Eligibility for appointment as Full Professor
-- Significant and successful leadership experience (at least seven years) at the college or Academic Affairs level at a regionally accredited college or university
-- Demonstrated success in working in a diverse, multicultural environment, including traditional and non-traditional students
-- A strong, experienced academic leader and administrator
-- A capable team leader skilled in team development
-- An engaging collaborator with internal and external constituencies
-- An effective advocate for faculty and students and for quality teaching, research, and service
