Carpenter I - 0602311
Georgia State University Building Maintenance -zone 05 department is seeking applicants for the Carpenter I position.
Duties: Repairs, builds and/or refinishes desks, cabinets, bookcases and other furniture. Repairs doors, locks, signs, screens, window components and similar items. Makes counter, cabinet and table tops from Formica; replaces floor and ceiling tiles, frames and finishes walls and constructs shelves. Operates woodworking machinery, sharpens saws, chisels, planer blades, knives and drill bits. Installs locks, knobs, hinges and other fixtures to structures. Performs preventive maintenance on entrance doors and selects building materials. Inspects safety of the roofs. Cleans equipment, shop and work areas.
Minimum Qualifications: Technical or vocational degree and one year experience; or a high school diploma or GED and three years experience; or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of equipment, practices and procedures of the carpentry trade. Ability to use hand tools and power tools of carpentry trade. Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds. Ability to access confined spaces. Ability to interpret blueprints. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Ability to bend, stoop and reach overhead and to lift 30 pounds. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Good verbal and written communication skills.
Salary Range $24,089 to $32,000
