The Assistant/Associate Vice President (AVP) is a member of the senior management team of the Office of Advancement and responsible for leading a team of professional major gift officers (MGOs) and will have a significant role in upcoming campaign priorities and activities. The AVP reports directly to the Vice President for Advancement and serves as a key partner in helping her achieve the strategic goals and vision for philanthropy at Georgia Southern University. The AVP will lead, integrate and enhance collaboration of fundraising activities by supervising and mentoring an initial staff of 8-10 major gift officers to include college/unit, corporate/foundation, and gift planning officers. S/he will set annual clear and stretch goals, implement accountability measures, and motivate and inspire the MGOs to meet and exceed expectations; create a professional work environment that rewards individual and collective success and builds confidence. The AVP will manage a small portfolio of major/leadership gift prospects and volunteers and ensure a coordinated, consistent fundraising effort. The AVP will have oversight of the major gift fundraisers' foundation budget allocation to ensure compliance with spending standards and monitor and respond to officer budget usage. S/he will play a strategic role in campaign planning and implementation as a member of the senior staff and will ensure compliance of all campaign activities by all major gift officers as appropriate. The AVP will work with the deans, center directors, and major gift officers to develop fundraising plans, goals, implement strategies for each management unit, monitor progress, and provide periodic and annual reports. The AVP will be a critical member of the Advancement leadership team in shaping the future trajectory of giving and philanthropy at Georgia Southern.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree; six or more years of experience in higher education fundraising; knowledge of the planning and implementation of a comprehensive campaign, with management experience, and demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major, leadership, and planned gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations; effective communication (verbal and written),organization, and human relations skills; ability to work with diverse populations; proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; ability to work well in a diverse environment; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Six or more years of executive and management experience; keen understanding of best practices in fundraising; proven track record of managing a comprehensive development effort, and demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing successful strategies to build a highly efficient, effective, and creative development program in a complex university system; proven success in planning, executing, and closing significant campaigns; proven track record in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing six- and seven-figure gifts; possess a high level of integrity and credibility; self-starter with a sense of urgency and a clear set of priorities; ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex environment; extraordinary communication skills; achievement-oriented; possess collegial, team-building style with a demonstrated ability to motivate staff to keep them engaged, energized and focused on results. Comprehensive campaign experience at a mid-to-senior level institution is highly desired
