This job expired 2 months ago.The Associate Dean for Admissions reports to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University, the 6th largest medical school in the United States. The primary responsibility of the Associate Dean for Admissions is to oversee all aspects of the Medical College of Georgia's admissions and recruitment process. The Associate Dean for Admissions leads a talented staff of seven devoted to success of recruitment and admissions. The Associate Dean for Admissions will work closely with the Admissions Committee as well as with the Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs to ensure recruitment of a diverse, well qualified class.
The personal qualities of integrity, honesty and fairness are of utmost importance for the Associate Dean for Admissions. The successful candidate must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work and communicate with a diverse group of constituents. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment in a department and have experience in medical school admissions.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Oversee the Office of Admissions including staffing, recordkeeping, communication of admission committee decisions to applicants, development and dissemination of admissions policies, and communication with interested applicants, faculty and others.
2. Chair the Admissions Committee for the Medical College of Georgia and the Transfer Admissions with Advanced Standing Committee (when advanced standing candidates are accepted) and strive to admit a high quality, diverse class.
3. Collaborate on development of strategies and policies related to admissions as part of the Georgia Health Sciences University, Medical College of Georgia expansion plans.
4. Organize and participate in recruitment activities for the college, including annual visits to many colleges and universities.
5. Work effectively and fairly with pre-health and pre-med advisors and applicants regarding admissions policies and processes.
6. Serve as a liaison to the MD/PhD Program Admissions Committee to coordinate admissions activities with the Medical College of Georgia Admissions Committee.
7. Serve as the Medical College of Georgia's liaison to the AAMC about matters concerning admissions, committees, projects and other activities.
8. Develop and give presentations at national meetings.
9. Provide data and information for all accreditation reviews and participate in site visits representing the office of admissions.
10. Counsel applicants regarding their admissions status, ways to improve their application and college policies that govern its admissions processes.
11. Provide reports relevant to admissions including, but not limited to, the Dean of the Medical College of Georgia, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Faculty Senate and the President of Georgia Health Sciences University.
12. Oversee content of the Office of Admissions web site.
13. Provide overall fiscal and resource management of the Office of Admissions.
Reporting Relationships
- This position reports to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Medical College of Georgia

Minimum Requirements
- M.D., Ph.D., Ed.D. or equivalent degree required with five years' experience in medical college admissions (i.e., interviewer and/or admissions committee member)
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with an academic appointment in a department in the Medical College of Georgia
- Outstanding communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build relationships among constituents and colleagues
- Leadership experience in student advising and student life
- Knowledgeable about future directions in medicine and their implications for medical student admissions
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials.
