This job expired 2 months ago.Florida International University (FIU) is seeking an exemplary leader for its flagship Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC). Established in 1979, FlU's Latin American and Caribbean Center was the university's first area studies center and is a dynamic research, education, and public affairs component of university life, now comprising nearly 200 affiliated faculty from not only the social sciences and humanities, but also the physical and biological sciences, environmental studies, business, law, and professional programs.
LACC (http://lacc.fiu.edu) is a Title VI National Resource Center for foreign languages and area studies (with partner University of Miami) and is deeply involved in a broad range of hemispheric activities and issues. LACC programming currently includes a highly respected Master's degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, a variety of graduate and undergraduate certificates, study abroad opportunities, and significant relationships to media, governments, and business communities throughout the hemisphere. LACC directly administers more than $7 million in external funding and has helped secure more than $25 million in additional funding administered across the university.
FIU is a multi-campus public research university located in Miami, a vibrant, international city. The ideal candidate will have a relevant doctorate, a distinguished research and teaching record, proven administrative and fundraising skills, and a vision for how a 21st century multi-disciplinary center can and should evolve its relationships with its own university, other academic institutions, and the local, national, and international communities. The candidate must also be eligible for tenure at the associate or full professor level in the appropriate academic department. Relevant language proficiency is expected.
