PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDIES - -OPEN RANK FACULTY POSITION

Job Description: East Carolina University's (ECU) Department of Physician Assistant Studies (PADP) welcomes applications for an anticipated full-time, fixed term or tenure track faculty position. Responsibilities of a regular faculty position include, but are not limited to, teaching didactic and clinical curricula, assisting in curriculum development, recruiting, student advising, participating in scholarly activities and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair. The ECU PA Program is a 27-month, master-level curriculum and is accredited by the ARC-PA.
ECU's Dept. of Physician Assistant Studies is one of eight departments in the College of Allied Health Sciences and is located in a new, state-of-the-art building on the medical science campus in Greenville, NC, along with the College of Nursing and the Laupus Medical Library. The Allied Health Building is part of a growing medical complex comprised of the Brody School of Medicine, Leo Jenkins Cancer Center, a Cardiovascular Center, a newly occupied Heart Institute and Dept. of Family Medicine building, as well as the new School of Dental Medicine, all adjacent to Pitt County Memorial Hospital and numerous private medical practices.
The candidate selected will be required to participate in a variety of administrative responsibilities including: providing academic counseling as a faculty advisor to assigned PA students; supporting the Didactic Education Coordinator as a course director as assigned; supporting the Clinical Education Coordinator as a clerkship proctor as assigned; participating in program and institutional committee appointments; participating in designing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating curriculum; participating in the process of selecting potential students for the PA Program; assisting in the ongoing self-study process as a member of the faculty and other program committees as assigned; contributing to the periodic self-study process; participating in continuing education and professional development programs and contributing to the administration and evaluation of the PA Program as assigned. The selected candidate should display the ability to communicate effectively and develop working relationships with students, peers, administration and community. PA faculty are expected to work with the Program faculty in developing the mission statement for the Program and serve as faculty advisor to student society when assigned.
Academic expectations include: teaching or team teaches courses in the didactic phase as assigned by the Department Chair; prepares and delivers assigned courses, including class syllabus and instructional objectives; assists other instructional faculty members in the successful delivery of the basic science and clinical curricula; evaluates student performance in assigned courses; identifies students who are not achieving course or Program objectives and contributes to a remediation plan; creates and reviews/revises end-of-rotation examinations as assigned as a Clinical Proctor; evaluates and grades student performance in assigned courses and submits grades to the Office of the Registrar in a timely manner. PA faculty are expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a current, unrestricted license as a physician assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or eligibility for licensure, a minimum of 3 years clinical experience in patient care as a physician assistant or physician, completion of an ARC-PA accredited program or its successors or predecessors, a master's degree or higher in a related field and certification as a physician assistant by the NCCPA. Teaching experience in a PA program is desirable.
