Job Description: The Brody School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education is currently recruiting a full-time Masters Degree level Curriculum Management Specialist.
The primary mission of the Office of Medical Education is to:
Support the teaching faculty and others in the process of providing an accredited program of undergraduate medical education leading to the MD degree.
To provide leadership in curriculum development, program evaluation, student assessment and medical education research and scholarship.
To work with our academic medical center partners in creating a variety of opportunities for students across North Carolina to pursue a career in medicine.
The Curriculum Management Specialist will support the curriculum at BSOM with focus on curriculum tracking, mapping, outcomes assessment and evaluation.
This position reports to the Associate Dean for Medical Education.
The Curriculum Management Specialist will work collaboratively with educational leaders and faculty to oversee curricular mapping/tracking needs of the MD Curriculum, assure integration of topics, collect curricular process and outcomes data and assist course directors in planning and implementing course elements.
Additional duties include: providing data analyses and reports to educational leadership to facilitate decision-making, conducting literature reviews and identifying relevant sources of information for evaluation purposes, and assisting in disseminating results through reports, publications and presentations.
In addition, the Curriculum Management Specialist will perform the following duties:
Monitoring and mapping of the curriculum, including the content taught in each discipline, so that the program's institutional learning objectives will be achieved.
Oversee the population of the three major BSOM curriculum mapping spreadsheets and the E*Value tool for the purpose of recording, updating and monitoring curricular content.
Analyze and map the Institutional Learning Objectives to Course Objectives and update the course learning objectives as approved by the curriculum committee and the Executive Curriculum Committee.
Analyze curriculum processes to identify gaps and implement improvements, policies, and procedures to ensure a comprehensive program of medical education.
Manage educational protocol development, program evaluation concepts, application and standards.
Summarize research findings for a range of target audiences, including funders, policymakers, academics, management and staff.
Develop component reviews and phase reviews of the curriculum for courses to review the previous years' outcomes and future plans in depth.
Participate in comprehensive reviews of the curriculum including information from each course and clerkship for the assessment of the longitudinal curriculum for such items as topic integration, service learning, interprofessional education, and student learning climate.
Compare school-specific outcome data (USMLE score, graduate questionnaires, program director surveys, etc.) with national ratings and make recommendations for change based upon these comparisons.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a Master's Degree in Higher Education or closely related field.
Experience in higher education teaching or administration and/or curriculum development.
Excellent understanding of educational assessment.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, and mentoring/coaching skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
PhD or EdD preferred
Three years' experience working with medical or professional students is strongly preferred
