Position Title: VICE PRESIDENT-ACADEMICS

Salary Classification: Grade 17-$73,125.00-$97,499.00

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Executive team member for institutional planning, implementation, and academic assessment; executive committee, strategic planning, and ex officio on academic standing committees; works collaboratively with the College’s leadership team to research, develop, and enhance the College’s comprehensive academic policies and procedures.
Administrative responsibility including preparing and presenting Board of Regents reports and other tribal governing or community organizations in English and Navajo; Ensures compliance of applicable tribal, state and federal laws and regulations related to confidentiality, integrity and accountability; Coordinates and collaborates with the Vice President of Finance & Administration and Student Success. Serves as Chief Academic Officer for primary contact on academic programs, assessment, and articulation of developmental courses, concurrent and dual enrollment courses, general education program, and baccalaureate, associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science and certificate programs offered by the college; member of Arizona and New Mexico academic coordinating committees and councils;
Supervises and works collaboratively with the College’s Institutional Research Office to gather and analyze relevant data for institutional decision for the academic programs. Reviews and develops routine reports including budget transaction, student enrollment and registration trends, and compiling institutional reports; and faculty workload and teaching contact hours.
Supervises academic personnel and provides oversight of six academic departments across the institution’s campus and sites, articulation and assessment, regional centers, distance education, college library system and; admission and records; coordination of college partnership for academic and research initiatives; oversees accreditation reports and activities.
Budgetary responsibilities include evaluating and allocating human, financial and facility resources among academic divisions, regional centers, academic support departments, and policy review, revision and implementation of faculty contract and credentials, workload, and academic assessment. Ensures efficacy of academic programs courses, and services to prepare students academically through annual planning, goal setting and academic program reviews.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
This position serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College’s Academic Programs. Master’s Degree in Higher Education administration or related field is required. Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of successful higher education administrative and management experience or increasing level and complexity of responsibility in managerial positions in administration. At least two years of experience must have included budget management, employee supervision and performance evaluation, hiring and disciplinary actions duties and responsibilities.
Interpersonal Skills:
As a member of the executive team, the Vice President of Academics must cooperate, collaborate and communicate with internal and external constituencies in English and Navajo. Must demonstrate the understanding, appropriateness and application of Navajo kinship system and protocol.
Operation of Equipment and/or Machinery:
Personal computer and peripheral; eligibility for the Navajo Nation driving permit; state driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
Language:
Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of fluency in the speaking and writing of the English language. Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable but not mandatory.
Restrictions:
No prior DUI, misdemeanor and conviction. Supervisors: 120 work day probationary period at the start of employment. All others: 60 work day probationary period at the start of employment. Eligible to work with students in a higher education setting.
Expectations:
As an executive, contribute to institutional strategic and academic planning, implementation and evaluation on a regular basis.
As the Chief Academic Officer, maintains institutional academic integrity and accountability to support accreditation, articulation, credentials and eligibility for institutional funding, and recruitment and retention of highly qualified faculty.
As the Chief Academic Officer is responsible for the continuous efforts of the assessment of academic programs, at the course and program level. Expected to develop a comprehensive academic plan and structures for academic program review.
Conditions:
Preemployment policies as indicated in the Diné College Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual 300.01. Section F, for background verification, and 400.04, Section H.1., for substance abuse prevention. 400.02, Section A.1., sixty (60) workdays probationary period for nonsupervisory employees, and 400.02, Section A.2., probationary period 120 workdays for supervisors.
