Darton State College is a progressive, rapidly growing State College within the State of Georgia. The main campus is located in the major city of Albany, with five satellite higher education centers in the state.
Darton State College, one of the newest State Colleges within the University System of Georgia (USG) is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Baccalaureate and Associate degrees and certificates. The Commission on Colleges has classified Darton State College as a Level II Institution. Darton recruits both nationally and internationally. Opened in 1966, Darton State College has experienced a growth rate of over 93% since 2001 and currently enrolls over 6,100 students in Baccalaureate, transfer, two-year associate degree programs and one-year career certificate programs. Darton State College also offers a comprehensive continuing education program.
This is a highly responsible administrative position performing a variety of tasks for the Department of Student Affairs in order to maintain and advance the international program.
Nature of Work:
Provide all levels of support to international students and programs from inquiry and application processing, pre-arrival and immigration work, insurance and health, programming, registration and college services to issues of extracurricular routine. Includes some weekend and evening work.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Provide accurate information quickly to international students inquiring into admission to the College. Respond to inquiries and prospective students.
•Serve as admissions counselor for international students to include correspondence with applicants, providing them accurate information and help in completing applications.
•Process the completed applications and inform students of admission and provide pre-arrival information.
•Maintain international applicant and student files and records, and enter student information into the College's administrative system.

•Provide essential services to students upon entry (airport pickup, shopping, bank, etc.) and during their course of study.
•Provide information and counseling to international students on immigration regulations and procedures, adjustments to life in the U.S., and on academic and personal concerns.
•Plan and implement student programs including, but not limited to, International Student Orientation, International Weeks, International Fair, and special informational programs on topics such as immigration, CPT, OPT, tax regulations, etc.
•Coordinate health insurance coverage for international students with the insurance company Pearce and Pearce and assist students with medical office needs and Transportation when necessary.
•Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) by processing immigration documentation for international students. Update student records and report to SEVIS each semester. Advise faculty and staff about SEVIS rules and regulations when necessary.
•Serve as liaison between International Programs and other campus offices for purposes of international student scholarship consideration, academic advisement, and registration.
•Assist the Cultural Exchange Club with the planning and implementation of their meetings, events and fundraising if any.
•Create publicity for international programs as needed, including designing event flyers.
•Maintain or assist the International Programs website linked to the College’s homepage.
•Attend occasional international social or area functions/meetings representing International Programs.
•Assist in serving as liaison to the community with regards to international student programming activities.
•Maintain active membership in appropriate professional organizations (NAFSA) and participate in professional development. Adhere to NAFSA's Statement of Principles of Good Practice.
•Assist in awarding scholarships to international students.
•Maintain positive working relationships with College employees and students.
•Work with Institutional Advancement and Marketing to promote Darton on the web and outside of the United States.

Required Education and/or Experience Preferred:
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•SEVIS experience preferred.
•Extensive work experience in international education preferred.
•Previous employment in the U.S. in an educational institution or in an agency dealing with international interchange preferred.
•Participation in activities, in college or elsewhere, which involved relationships with foreign students, or which provided cross cultural experiences, or which otherwise broadened the individual’s understanding of other cultures and the values of international education, study, employment, or residence in another country or extensive travel outside the United States admired.
•The International Student Coordinator reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Success.
