Lab Technician I (108-13)

The Lab Technician I role ensures the safety and security of an academic laboratory in compliance with appropriate government regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Orders, receives and stores supplies
Properly disposes of laboratory waste materials
Records and monitors expenditures and charges relevant to laboratory operation
Explains and enforces laboratory policies and procedures
Assists faculty in the laboratory by providing technical support with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures and/or curricula
Prepares classroom laboratory workstations with the necessary materials and apparatus to perform experiments
Prepares experiments and demonstrations for classroom use
Arranges supplies and equipment as laboratory requirements change
Performs minor repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Prepares, maintains and monitors supplies and equipment inventory
Maintains and cleans the laboratory, stockroom and departmental equipment
Sets up special demonstrations
Secures laboratory area
Provide support to students on their project and homework assignments
Assists with annual inventory
May functionally supervise students in the lab
Performs other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent verbal, written communication, and mathematics skills
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of regular work
Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years experience in machine tools operation and CAD proficiency
Working knowledge of Strength of Materials, Statics and Dynamics
