1. Supervises general merchandise staff by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, and training employees.
2. Conducts annual employee evaluations, recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnel actions.
3. Approves leave and requests overtime as appropriate.
4. Establishes and implements with approval of the Director general merchandise sales goals, margins, matrixes, and analysis of sales performance by department.
5. Discusses new product lines, quantity, cost, and placement of product with the Buyers. Monitors merchandise mix to maximize sales and service opportunities.
6. Oversees and implements internal promotions, visual displays, and signage.
7. Works closely with the Marketing Coordinator and Buyers to develop marketing materials for sales promotions and events.
8. Develops surveys or other instruments in conjunction with the Marketing Coordinator and Bookstore team to gather market research. Compiles data with the support of the Financial Analyst.
9. Performs miscellaneous responsibilities including ordering store merchandise bags and retail supplies.
10. Seeks opportunities to develop partnerships to build retail business.
11. Maintains current industry knowledge and stays ahead of the curve by seeking opportunities to develop the general merchandise business by researching current trends and opportunities. Prepares information and communicates opportunities to the Director.
12. Reviews analysis reports to monitor inventory levels, turn over, sales per square foot and other matrixes and measures compared to industry benchmarks. Directs actions to meet store objectives, market demand, and operates in a fiscally responsible manner.
13. Assists Director in establishing objectives and preparing annual budget. Makes recommendations for capital purchases.
14. Maintains records and sensitive information.
15. Participates in store inventory and quarterly cycle counts.
16. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance, works outside of normal work schedule as needed and performs duties and responsibilities of staff to meet workload demands.
. Required education/experience An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum qualifications for this position are: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Retail, Business, Public Relations or related field, with 3-5 years of progressively responsible related experience in retail, sales/marketing, customer service and management. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of: standard supervisory principles and practices; marketing; public relations; retail and merchandising; inventory management; college and bookstore policy and procedures; basic accounting principles; customer service; computer; standard office practice and procedure; basic mathematics;
Ability to: apply supervisory principles to practical work situations; work collaboratively with peers, staff and supervisor; to lead work in the buying and creative retailing and merchandising of products and services to a college market and outside community; seek and build business opportunities and partnerships; perform detail analysis of sales and product performance; lead teams; develop and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with associates, vendors, customers, students, faculty and general public; maintain sensitive and confidential information; maintain good customer relations, deal effectively with difficult customers, problem resolution.
Skill in: planning, scheduling, delegating and organizing work; verbal and written communications; budget management; training; operation of computer; inventory purchasing and management, developing and implementing marketing/promotional goals; detailed analysis. Preferred Qualifications Training/Certifications Required State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to worksite(s).
