1. Provide career counseling to assist students with clarification of educational goals and career selection, including guidance on academic major and career pathway.
2. Assist current students and recent alumni to identify careers that match their personality type, values, and skills, and assists students to develop educational and
3. Provide individual and group career counseling and career direction services to students.
4. Conduct career counseling and test interpretations for individuals and small groups.
5. Develop and conduct workshops for students on career exploration, decision-making, goal setting, campus resources, and other related topics using a variety of delivery formats.
6. Facilitate career related classroom presentations, group/club presentations and others as requested.
7. Develop career services and career counseling approaches for underrepresented student populations including but not limited to minority students, non-traditional students, veterans, and returning students.
8. Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and college departments to identify, define, and meet student career planning and career search needs, including setting student success goals and objectives.
9. Contribute to the identification, analysis, and assessment of student success outcomes.
10. Conducts training for new students, and new employees pertaining to Career Services. May be assigned to oversee special programs, retention projects and activities.
11. Provide career consultation and referral services.
12. Informs students of College's policies and procedures, degree requirements and how to be a successful student.
13. Collect and maintain accurate student records for reporting purposes while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
14. Provides front desk coverage, as needed answering phones, facilitating student in-take and screening and greeting students.
15. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works as required meeting workload demands. Performs other related duties as required. Required education/experience An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum qualifications for this position are: Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education, or closely related field with minimum of 2 to 4 years experience in higher education, or related to, career planning and employment services, including direct career counseling to students (or similar constituents). Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of: career planning and development process; job search strategies; general counseling principles; academic and career counseling; career development theories, psychological theories of personality development; developmental theories of life span and adaptation; computer software, programs and applications; cultural diversity; College's admission policies and procedures; general policies and procedures within enrollment services and student life.
Ability to: create career development programs including but not limited to career pathways; career assessments, interest inventories and test interpretations; demonstrate flexibility; work effectively with diverse higher education populations; cultivate collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and professional colleagues; understand and use of current educational practices in career counseling; organize activities and coordinate groups of people; prioritize multiple tasks; communicate effectively (writing, listening, and speaking); work independently and demonstrate initiative; follow-through on assigned tasks; problem-solve, answer routine inquires; make decisions, manage conflict; maintain confidential of sensitive information.
