Job Description To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for disabled persons, covered by the Americans With Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements.
1) Supervises assigned area of responsibility and staff by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth development opportunities.
2) Conducts annual employee evaluations, and effectively recommends pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions.
3) Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate.
4) Participates in employee selection process. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources. Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces policy.
5) Maintains responsibility for department instructional planning. Develops quarterly class schedules, with input from faculty and others, and assigns faculty to classes.
6) Coordinates schedules with central scheduling. Responsible for ensuring schedules are entered into computer including faculty assignments and contract hours.
7) Monitors student enrollments, including "adds" and "cancels" within confines of resource availability. Reviews and recommends revisions to quarterly and annual class schedules for on and off campus sites.
8) Works with faculty to develop student admission, progression and program policies.
9) Maintains adjunct faculty pool, and hires adjunct faculty.
10) Provides mentor for new adjunct faculty, introduces procedures and protocols, and provides first orientation to the department and College.
11) Arranges for resources to promote efficient and effective work and working conditions including office space, supplies, voice mail, technology and other resources.
12) Supports and directs employees, delegates work assignments and projects and monitors work to ensure work complies with quality standards.
13) Monitors and conducts evaluations, and reviews and follows-up on student evaluations of faculty. Mentors faculty and staff, and addresses concerns, problems and issues.
14) Facilitates professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, and makes recommendations for faculty tenure and promotion portfolios.
15) Maintains good communications with faculty and staff, and confers with faculty regarding department, College and academic issues.
16) Monitors and guides department's assessment plan. Develops framework with faculty to facilitate master plan assessment of program outcomes, and plans program policies and direction based on industry quality benchmarks.
17) Assesses student success based on identified outcome measures, and adjusts program curricula and policies based on assessment findings.
18) Conducts classroom observations, and completes observation reports to monitor and assess compliance with academic standards.
19) Monitors and approves Faculty Mission and Learning Support plans.
20) Guides and monitors curriculum review and development process. Ensures curriculum complies with accreditation and licensure board requirements. Maintains course curriculum outlines for courses taught in assigned department, and provides outlines to Colleges and students. Assigns and monitors periodic review and revision of course outlines.
21) Interacts and maintains open communications with dean regarding support and establishment of divisional initiatives and programs, personnel issues, standards of performance, and intra-College issues and concerns. Required education/experience An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum qualifications for this position are: Master's Degree in a closely related field, with 3 to 5 years progressively responsible experience teaching at the community college level, inclusive of training or experience in management and education administration. A minimum of 5 years of managerial-level industry experience in a closely related field. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of: higher education; academic discipline specialty; role of community college in higher education and the community; management; leadership; curriculum planning and implementation; organizational change; distance education; assessment theory and practice; international education trends and issues; education administration; management principles and practices.
Ability to: apply management principles to practical situations; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, faculty, general public and other job contacts; exhibit creativity in developing course curriculum; multi-task; work effectively with diverse student and faculty populations; maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Skill in: verbal and written communications; listening; organization; operation of computer; prepare reports; conflict management; application of job-related software; making presentations; teaching; planning, scheduling and organizing work. Preferred Qualifications Experience in teaching or managing in a higher education setting.
Appropriate industry certifications. Training/Certifications Required State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to worksite(s).
