Performance Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Dean, Social and Behavioral Sciences to perform the following and other duties as assigned. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Instruct a variety of lower division geography courses including Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, Cultural Geography and Physical Geography Lab. Assignment may include evening and weekend courses.
2. Hold office hours, prepare courses, assess student work and maintain student records.
3. Maintain currency in the discipline and educational technology through professional development activities.
4. Participate in departmental administration such as Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) assessment, program review, curriculum development and revision.
5. Participate in division and campus activities such as division meetings, campus committees and other activties and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the position you are applying to, and you wish to be considered.
1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):
a. Possess a Master's in geography.
b. Possess a Bachelor's in geography and Master's in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography.
c. Possess the Master's in the interdisciplinary area or Master's in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline.
d Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.
2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Broad educational background in geography, including a Bachelor's and Master's degree in geography from an accredited college or university.
2. Successful teaching experience of lower division geography courses.
3. Teaching experience at the community college level.
4. Related travel experience.
5. Demonstrated use of a variety of instructional methods in the classroom.
6. Strong commitment to geographic education, student success and academic excellence.
7. Evidence of sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students.
Contract (tenure track), full-time, two semesters per year
Location: Orange Coast College
Start Date: Fall semester, August 2012

Salary Range:
Full-time, two-semester position with a maximum starting range of $46,037.00 - $78,490.00 is offered, based on the 2011-2012 Salary Schedule of $46,037.00 to $109,761.00. In addition, an annual stipend of $2,781.00 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
Pay Philosophy:
Starting salaries for academic positions are based on a combination of education and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and professional development. An additional annual stipend is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
Work Schedule: Day, Evening, and/or Weekend.
