The Department of Curriculum and Foundations in the College of Education and Human Services at Cleveland State University is seeking applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to start August, 2014. This is a one-year position with a possible second year appointment contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Gifted and Talented Education program, secondary education methods of teaching, assessment of student learning, classroom management, as well as curriculum theory and instruction; coordinate the Gifted and Talented Education program; supervise course-specific field experiences.
Earned doctorate in education with an emphasis on gifted education, curriculum and instruction, secondary education, educational psychology, or related field. Candidates that are designated as ABD are also encouraged to apply, provided the doctorate is completed no later than August 1, 2014. Additional minimum qualifications include experience in teacher preparation, curriculum theory, models of gifted education, as well as middle and high school methods of teaching; three years of teaching experience in middle and/or high school; professional experience in multicultural/diverse and/or urban settings; evidence of potential for scholarly productivity.
At least 5 years of recent teaching experience of gifted and talented students; proven commitment to collaborative teacher preparation programs involving field-based supervision and/or mentoring; proven effective university teaching experience; familiarity with instructional technology integration in the classroom, including online delivery models; experience in constructivism, student-centered, reflective, differentiation of instruction for gifted and advanced learners in diverse settings, and critical teaching paradigms; familiarity with curriculum design processes, as well as promotion of academic programs; proven effective experience coordinating academic programs for gifted and talented students in K-12 and/or university settings; demonstrated effective experience supervising practicum and/or student teaching experiences for educators of gifted and talented students; proven ability to engage in outreach programs for gifted and talented students to schools and districts; proven scholarly productivity.
Salary and Benefits:
Commensurate with entry-level appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor, inclusive of a competitive fringe benefits package. Summer teaching is available contingent upon student enrollment.
