1. JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Director of Development is responsible for the conception, management, coordination, execution, closure, evaluation and reporting of fundraising initiatives for 150 major gift prospects ($25,000 and above). This individual will work closely with the Dean/VP of the College/unit, the Senior Director of Development for University Development and the Senior Director of Gift and Estate Planning on initiatives and proposals for his/her assigned prospects. The Senior Director will provide leadership for and management of development activities for both internal and external constituents. The primary focuses for the Senior Director is the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Major Gift support for the initiatives of the College and manage the fundraising program for the College/unit. He/she must maintain an in-depth knowledge of the University's priorities and inspire the respect and confidence of the executive, academic, administrative, Foundation and trustee leadership of the University. The Senior Director will assist the University with emphasis area initiatives and/or University-related or College/unit-related Initiatives. Direct reporting, daily management and annual evaluation will be through the Office for Development. The Senior Director will lead and manage a team ranging in size from three (3) to five (5) fundraisers.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Manages a dynamic pool of major gift prospects (with a minimum of 50) with a capacity to make a gift in the $25,000-$1,000,000+ range. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards gifts from College/Unit alumni and friends through 12-14 visits with prospects on a monthly basis. Responsible for raising a minimum of $2,000,000 in year one. Coordinates, in partnership with Donor Services, cultivation events related to development activities, including securing hosts to fund these activities. E/55%
Leads the comprehensive annual planning and implementation of their assigned Team's development plan. Serves on the University Development Leadership Team. Hires and manages a team of development officers (Levels 1-4) to help them achieve their fundraising goals. Activities to include one-on-one meetings, team meetings, prospect strategy development, etc. Works with assigned Dean/VP of College/Unit to insure that the Development Enterprise is achieving his/her fundraising goals. Encourages collaborative teamwork with team members across the Development Enterprise, including but not limited to The Principal and Planned Giving Office, The Corporation and Foundation Office, Donor Services, Gift Management, Research,
and Information Technology. E/45%
Bachelor's degree and related experience in alumni development, fundraising, prospect research, and/or business development.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Seven or more years experience in development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A basic understanding of development services. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships, personal organization, time management and creative thinking. Proficiency in appropriate technologies for completing tasks quickly and efficiently (i.e., electronic spreadsheet and presentation software).
Guidelines and Supervision:
This position involves working as an integral member of the development team. Effective coordination of the employee's time and activities with those of the University Development Team and the Development Enterprise is, therefore, required. Frequent work outside normal business hours is required, including overnight travel. The Sr. Director of Development will be supervised by the Sr. Director of University Development of the University Development Team.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Based on experience, salary range $90,000 - $120,000.
Frequent evening work and overnight travel required
