JOB PURPOSE:
The Department Campus Life encompasses the management, scheduling and programming of more than a dozen indoor and outdoor venues and the advisement of three dynamic student organizations with the primary purpose and function of campus programming. The Senior Associate Director of Student Advising & Programming is responsible for overseeing all aspects of advisement, education, development & assessment of all involved students/organizations by utilizing best practices, student learning outcomes, departmental and divisional goals that ultimately support the overall mission and vision of Clemson University.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Advises Central Spirit (premier athletic support organization), CLEMSONLiVE (primary student program Board) and TigerPaw Productions (concert committee & student staffing agency for all Campus Life venues and events). Provides sustained advising vision and serves as the coordinator of professional staff advising efforts of these organizations as a team advising model will be actively utilized. Supports student leadership in oversight of all functions of organizations including the missions, visions, budget development/monitoring and the intentional creation of developmental, experiential learning for students to support departmental, divisional and university goals. 2. Serves as primary professional staff member exploring opportunities for the strategic planning and development of implementing sustainable programs that will provide additional and alternative programming and development for students. Coordinate, supervise and evaluate planned programs, events and related personnel. E/20%
3. Hires, trains and evaluates one professional and one graduate staff member who serve as the primary advisors for Campus Life's student organizations. Works with staff and involved students to create a mutually beneficial, collaborative environments for all organizations advised by department. E/15%
4. Serves as the primary assessment coordinator for the Department of Campus Life. Ensure that student learning is measured and reported for volunteer, positional and employment positions. Analyze data and direct department in improvement efforts. E/15%
5. Serves as member of Campus Life's academic team to develop sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship with the department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) through participation in undergraduate and graduate programs. E/10%
6. Meets regularly with supervisor, attends staff meetings & departmental cabinet meetings, participates in departmental and University-wide committees, supports Campus Life assessment efforts and developing and supporting on going collaborative opportunities. Through advisement and/or supervision of students and staff, intentionally provide opportunities to for personal/professional growth and development. E/5%
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM:
A master's degree and at least 5 years experience in student services programs, supervisory, budgetary and event management/coordination experience required. Experience advising student organizations with the primary purpose of providing programs and major events on a traditional, residential college campus preferred.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Band: 06 ($ 36,840.00 - $ 68,160.00)
Must work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and holidays.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
This position requires all of the requisite skills needed to provide programs, services for a diverse student and client population and their range of needs. Extensive knowledge in student development/leadership theory, programming/event management, facility operations, and risk management are necessary. Familiarity in negotiating, writing and administering a wide variety of events and contracts. Successful candidate will possess the ability to apply creative and strategic thinking and planning processes to increase student involvement, development and engagement.
The employee performs job responsibilities under limited supervision by the Director of Campus Life. Employee has considerable flexibility for independent decision making and judgment and must be capable of high level problem solving.
This employee must be creative and demonstrate excellent education and leadership ability. Involvement in professional organizations is also necessary for success in this position.
