GENERAL DUTIES: As a senior staff member serving as a confidential assistant in a Campus or University Executives office, leads unit initiatives, participates in planning and setting priorities, and drives strategic initiatives to ensure their success. 

- Participates in planning and in setting policies with responsibility for preparing aspects of strategic and operational plans

- Participates in developing and executing performance management systems to evaluate progress

- Works with other Campus and University units to oversee complex, high-priority projects, with responsibility for outcomes

- Represents the Executive in Campus or University-wide activities and may act in his/her place as needed

- Independently carries out major responsibilities under the Executives purview, such as monitoring and evaluating unit activities, financial planning and review, serving as chair of key committees, and communications with senior Campus or University management

- May serve as Chief of Staff of a large Executive Office

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The University Office for Diversity and Recruitment (ORD) promotes the University's goal of a diverse workforce by visibly providing strong leadership and commitment to diversity, broadening outreach and recruitment, strengthening institutional diversity infrastructures, developing strategic diversity plans, and cultivating diversity awareness and appreciation. ORD is also responsible for the overall development of strategy related to recruiting top tier talent which includes the development and execution of recruitment sources and integration and management of all aspects of the talent acquisition function, including building a pipeline of diverse talent. This office reports to the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Management.

The Deputy to the University Dean supports ORD's mission by performing a wide range of professional and administrative tasks requiring the highest degree of confidentiality, skill, and sound judgment. He/she will:
- Manage the University's Faculty Fellowship Publications Program, Diversity Projects Development Fund, and other projects as assigned.
- Lead and provide guidance for a number of long- and short-term projects.
- Lead a variety of special reporting and analysis initiatives to incorporate diversity implications in policy and organizational decision making.
- Participate in strategic planning by creating presentations on diversity data and assist the University Dean or Director in conducting advocacy and outreach at conferences, panel discussions, forums and meetings.
- Manage the administration of the ORD office, implement best practices to improve operations, and serve as the chief contact in the absence of the University Dean.
- Represent the University Dean at meetings and other events as needed; communicate with CUNY management across campuses on behalf of the Dean.
- Manage and train staff as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree is highly preferred.

- Proficiency using computers and standard office applications including Microsoft Office and e-mail/scheduling programs
- A highly developed capacity for problem solving

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
