GENERAL DUTIES: The Associate Dean administers one or more key College programs. He/she develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality results and meet strategic goals. He/she also coordinates activities among different units, and with areas outside the College, and may oversee staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Office of Institutional Research in the City University of New York's (CUNY) system administration located in New York City invites applications for Associate Dean for Institutional Research to lead the Office of Institutional Research. CUNY's system administration places a special premium on the use of empirical research to inform its policies and decisions. To sustain this commitment, CUNY has invested in the creation of unusually rich data resources. The office provides data and analyses to support the development of academic policy, the evaluation of University programs, and a variety of other Central Office functions. It is also responsible for regular internal and external reporting for the system, including IPEDS, state and city reports.
The Associate Dean oversees the Office of Institutional Research within the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment and serves as Deputy to the University Dean for Institutional Research and Assessment. The Associate Dean oversees decision support for the chancellery and is engaged with senior management in system-wide planning and accountability. The Associate Dean is also responsible for expanding and maintaining the data infrastructure that sustains decision support and reporting. A key component is the Institutional Research Database, a data warehouse that integrates admission, demographic, transcript, and other student information for all colleges in the CUNY system.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees the design and timely execution of studies and analyses to meet the information needs of the chancellery, and its component offices including Academic Affairs, University Relations, Enrollment Management, Budget and Finance, and Student Affairs.
- Builds and maintains the data infrastructure that sustains decision support and reporting for the system.
- Conducts system-wide survey research.
- Oversees the collection of student and faculty workload data as well as a collection of faculty scholarship.
- Designs and maintains a data warehouse integrating data from the NYC public school system with the records of high school graduates who attend CUNY.
- Participates with Information Technology in the procurement and implementation of system-wide BI software.
- Leads a team of staff to create a collaborative work environment and ensures the accuracy of analyses.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: - A Ph.D. or other equivalent doctoral degree and eight (8) years directly related experience required
- Exceptional managerial, technical, analytical, evaluative, and communication skills in a system office or in a higher education institution
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to use sound judgment to make decisions and resolve problems diplomatically
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to plan and successfully execute multiple assignments with conflicting priorities and concurrent deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Excellent data management skills including collection, organization, and analyses of data
- Experience designing and executing quantitative research involving complex data analyses, statistical analyses including a range of multivariate techniques, and survey research
- Experience with the management of technology projects, including data warehouses and business intelligence applications
- Strong communication skills with the ability to write, speak and present effectively to a wide variety of audiences including executives
- Ability to forge collaborative relationships with peers and to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at various organizational levels

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
