GENERAL DUTIES: As a key member of the executive management team, the Assistant Vice President oversees one or more College functions to fulfill comprehensive program goals and contributes to overall College strategic objectives.  He/she plans and implements a range of successful programs; and oversees staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CONTRACT TITLE: Assistant Vice President

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Assistant Vice President, as the College's Chief Human Resources professional, is responsible for administering the College's comprehensive Human Resource Services unit as well as for providing leadership and direction in the implementation of college and university human resource policies, programs, and initiatives.

Duties include:
- Development and implementation of strategic human resource initiatives that align with and support the College's and University's strategic plan. 
- Interpretation and implementation of the University's Bylaws, written policies, civil service rules and regulations, and all collective bargaining agreements. 
- Providing counsel to and working collaboratively with senior executives and other administrators and chairpersons on a broad range of issues including labor relations and employment law, human resource policies and practices, and the development of college policy and protocols.
- Working collaboratively with the College Affirmative Action Officer to ensure that the university's affirmative action policies and protocols, especially in matters of faculty and staff recruitment, are administered and utilized effectively
- Serving as the President's Labor Designee, which includes overseeing the grievance and disciplinary processes and daily contract administration for all categories of faculty and staff.
- Planning, organizing, and implementing staff development and training initiatives for the College.
- Directing key Human Resource Services staff responsible for the daily operation of professional and classified staff services including: fringe benefits administration; payroll; human resource information systems; classification; timekeeping; faculty promotion and tenure support services; staff development and training; employee recruitment/advertising; labor relations; and environmental health and safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: The College seeks a seasoned, human resources professional with organizational leadership experience in a complex, decentralized, diverse environment. Advanced degree in human resource services, labor relations, law or a related field and a minimum of eight total years of progressively responsible experience required. A major portion of experience should be in an educational or academic environment. Membership in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in: operations management; strategic human resource planning; human resource and organizational development; labor relations, contract compliance, disciplinary matters, negotiation; and civil service administration.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
