The EdD Program within the Educational Leadership Unit is seeking an individual to fill a full-time position at the rank of Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on credentials, to teach courses in the doctoral program in a “three semester” academic year calendar. This person will serve as the quantitative methodologist for the program. He or she should be comfortable in teaching in a program that is based on the adult learning model, taught on a cohort structure, linked to the ELCC standards, and rooted in the pursuit of social justice. He or she is also expected to participate/instruct as part of the doctoral seminar courses as well as teach courses within the EdD Program or other programs within the Educational Leadership Unit appropriate to the person’s area of expertise, be a member of dissertation committees as content specialist and/or quantitative methodologist, and direct dissertations based on expertise. The person filling this position can select to pursue either a scholar-practitioner or practitioner-scholar track to define specific scholarly, instructional, and service requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Either at Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor level:

1. Teach quantitative methods and research courses as assigned in the EdD and/or CAGS and Master’s programs along with other courses deemed appropriate, including doctoral seminar courses.

2. Advise students in the doctoral program.

3. Serve as a member of dissertation committees as either content specialist and/or quantitative methodologist.

4. Be part of dissertation committees, serving as chair when appropriate. When serving as dissertation chair, student research has to be compatible with faculty person’s area(s) of demonstrable expertise, interest, and/or experience.

5. Perform ongoing scholarship related to the Unit that reflects positively on the unit’s goals (e.g., presentations, publications, other agreed-to scholarly artifacts, pursuit and awarding of external funding). Evaluation expectations will be defined in accordance to scholarship track negotiated between person taking the position and Director (based on defined doctoral faculty evaluation process).

6. Provide statistical research and grant writing support to unit and School of Education goals.

7. Provide service to the College.

8. Attend contractually defined College- and School-wide meetings and activities.

9. Provide service to appropriate professional organizations in order to further the Program’s reputation and visibility in accordance to doctoral faculty evaluation guidelines.

10. Stated research agenda that will be actively pursued.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Either at Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor level:

· Perform field supervision work based on need.

· Help with School of Education or College marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts as requested.

· Assist with accreditation-related activities as required.

· Help review and/or redesign existing courses and programs; create new courses and programs as requested.

· Work with program coordinators in other areas to improve the quality of curriculum and instruction within the School of Education and the College at large.

· Represent the interests of the Program, Unit, and School at College functions as well as with external stakeholders.

· Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

For Visiting Associate Professor:

· Earned terminal degree in educational leadership, educational research, or related field.

· Scholarship appropriate to level of position and professional activity (as defined by guidelines found in the defined doctoral evaluation process).

· Statement of research agenda that supports the unit’s goals and will be actively pursued.

· Demonstrated experience in teaching educational research courses emphasizing quantitative research.

· Demonstrated experience in designing and performing quantitative research activities in educational environments.

· Prior higher education full-time teaching, administrative, or equivalent experience at the graduate level.

· Interest in pursuing a social justice focus.

· Experience in teaching using the adult learning model.

For Visiting Assistant Professor:

· Earned terminal degree in educational leadership, educational research, or related field. Must have degree by the time of appointment.

· Demonstrated scholarship or potential for scholarship supportive of the unit and School of Education activities.

· Stated scholarship agenda that supports the unit’s goals and will be actively pursued.

· Demonstrated experience in teaching educational research courses emphasizing quantitative research.

· Demonstrated experience in designing and performing quantitative research activities in educational environments.

· Prior higher education teaching experience teaching educational research courses, with an emphasis on quantitative research.

· Interest in pursuing a social justice focus.

· Experience in teaching using the adult learning model.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

For Visiting Associate Professor:

· Prior higher education experience in teaching quantitative methods courses in a post-Master’s/doctoral degree program.

· Experience serving in doctoral committees. Major preference for prior dissertation chair experience.

· Minimum of three years experience as K-12 administrator as at least a principal or equivalent. Active or recent certification as a site level or central level administrator is a plus.

· Minimum of 3 years K-12 teaching experience.

· Demonstrated visibility in professional associations as a result of active participation or the holding of a leadership position.

For Visiting Assistant Professor:

· Demonstrated experience in teaching educational research courses emphasizing quantitative research at the graduate level.

· Experience leading research projects in a K-12 environment or equivalent.

· Administrative experience at the K-12 level.

· Teaching experience at the K-12 level.

· Demonstrated visibility in professional associations as a result of active participation or the holding of a leadership position.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Embraces working with students from traditionally under-represented groups in an adult learning environment.

· Evidence demonstrating a commitment to promote an enactive environment leading to meaningful change.

· Knowledge of IT and its use in the classroom. Ability to use MS Office suite programs. Expert level knowledge of SPSS and functional knowledge of other statistical packages such as SAS.

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:

· Lifting up to 25 pounds is possible.

· Travelling to different teaching sites is possible based on classroom location and type.
