Brown University seeks nominations and applications for an individual to fill the position of Dean of the College. Located in historic Providence, Rhode Island and founded in 1764, Brown University is the seventh-oldest college in the United States. Brown is an independent, coeducational Ivy League institution comprising undergraduate and graduate programs, plus the Alpert Medical School, School of Public Health, School of Engineering, Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership and the IE Brown Executive MBA.
The Dean of the College is the senior academic officer for the undergraduate college at Brown. The Dean provides leadership to Brown faculty and staff to support and advance excellence in undergraduate liberal arts education within the context of Brown’s open curriculum. The Dean is also the principal representative of Brown’s distinctive undergraduate curriculum to external agencies and foundations, alumni/ae, and other constituencies. With the President, Provost, and other senior administrators, the dean will identify and address priorities for the College, including education initiatives, academic advising, diversity perspectives in liberal learning curricula, international studies, and the structure and support of undergraduate concentrations. The Dean of the College provides direct strategic leadership for all aspects of Brown's undergraduate curriculum and oversees the management and operations of the offices and centers that support undergraduate teaching, learning and advising both on campus and abroad. The President appoints the Dean, with the concurrence of the Brown Corporation.
