The Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Humanities & Social Sciences/Associate Director, Humanities & Social Sciences *. The position works with faculty, postdocs and graduate students in the humanities and social sciences disciplines at Brown to facilitate their professional development in pedagogy and the communication of their scholarship. The position provides professional development across the disciplines through the development of general programs and workshops for various audiences including faculty, postdocs, staff, graduate students. The position also creates and directs programs for undergraduates in facilitation, communication and leadership. In addition, together with the Director, the Associate Director supports the pedagogical components of grant applications and participates in university committees to support initiatives for the professional development of the Brown teaching community and curriculum development. This is a full time, 12 month appointment.
*The candidate's qualification and skills will determine if the hire is at the level of Assistant Director or at the Associate Director level.
-Earned doctorate or equivalent expertise in a Humanities or Social Science discipline.
-Experience as a college-level, post-secondary instructor and researcher.
-Evidence of the ability to conduct university professional development activities.
-Evidence of the ability to present engaging workshops and seminar discussions.
-Demonstrated commitment to professional development in pedagogy
-Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively across a range of stakeholders, including faculty, postdocs, students and administrators.
-Experience in collaborating with and motivating people to work together to achieve goals.
Additional qualifications for the Associate Director level would include:
--Evidence of the ability to design, develop and lead university professional development activities;
-Evidence of the ability to lead and present engaging workshops and seminar discussions.
-Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of teaching, curriculum, and technology.
-Experience in integration of educational technologies in curriculum development or course activities
-Experience using or supporting the use of academic technologies, such as learning management systems, digital media, and smart classroom tools
-Knowledge of instructional assessment.
-Knowledge of multiple and varied pedagogical approaches and their application in higher education.
-Evidence of program or curricular development.
Desirable qualifications for the Associate Director level:
-Demonstrated experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
-Experience in program or institutional evaluation at the university level.
-Prior experience and a facility for grant writing and procurement.
