Job Description: Preschool Teacher
This is a ten-month, exempt position which falls within the APA Union.
The Preschool Teacher of the Children's Center will support the development and implementation of a quality early childhood program, including the design of age appropriate curriculum, and organization and maintenance of the classroom environment.
Based on 20 hours per week.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of the Children's Center.
Core Duties:
1. Assist in the administration and operation of the Children's
Center in accordance with the Policies and Procedures Manual, the regulations of the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), and the accreditation standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
2. Support the development and implementation of age-
appropriate curriculum that meets the individual abilities,
interests, and needs of children two years nine months to
six years of age.
3. Assist in organizing and maintaining a classroom that is
challenging, clean, orderly and safe.
4. Contribute to an effective communication model with
parents, to include regular consultations and at least one
parent conference on each child every six months, as assigned by the lead teacher and/or the director.
5. Contribute to the preparation of at least one written
progress report on each child every six months, as assigned by the lead teacher and/or the director.
6. Assist in maintaining accurate records of children's
attendance, and ensure that they are current at all times.
7. Supervise, train, evaluate, and work effectively with
assistant teachers and volunteers.
8. Act as a resource to and work effectively with college
students from various departments fulfilling course
requirements.
9. Assist in the development of educational goals and behavior management strategies for individual children.
10. Participate in weekly staff meetings, weekly curriculum planning meetings, and after school events such as parent meetings, socials, fundraisers, etc.
11. Expand work hours for additional compensation on an as
needed basis, assuming the responsibilities of teachers and lead teachers in their absence.
12. Keep abreast of current research and trends in early
childhood by actively seeking opportunities for professional development. Keep records documenting a minimum of twenty (20) hours per year of training as required by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
13. Responsible for keeping personal health information
current, as well as other records required by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
14. Responsible for coordinating positioning with teammates to maximize supervision and ensure that the team knows the whereabouts and activities of all children in their care at all times.
15. All other duties assigned by the lead teacher or director. Required Qualifications: 1. An associates degree in early childhood education or a
related field.
2. Preschool teacher qualified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Preferred Qualifications: 1. A Bachelors degree in early childhood education or a related field, including four courses in early childhood education from an accredited institution.
2. A minimum of eighteen (18) months experience in an early childhood setting.
3. Preschool lead teacher qualified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
