The Assistant Professor teaches developmental math courses to meet the needs of a growing population of students. The Assistant Professor is responsible for departmental and college-wide activities in keeping with the mission and vision of Baltimore City Community College. In accordance with the College’s commitment to ensuring student success in developmental level courses, the position teaches students at a variety of skill levels, integrating technology in the delivery of instruction and infusing new approaches in the teaching and learning process in the skillful and innovative remediation of math difficulties.

Requirements:
• Master’s Degree in Mathematics or related area
• 3 years teaching experience including one year teaching developmental level courses

Essential Functions:

(Curriculum Development and Assessment)
• Develop and teach 15 hours per semester of college level credit courses
• Assist in curriculum development
• Assist in selection and mentoring of adjunct faculty
• Engage in Departmental assessment and evaluation of courses and programs
• Grade and return student assignments and tests in a reasonable period of time
• Prepare complete course outlines and syllabi
• Continually revise and update course content and materials of instruction
• Coordinate course contents and methods with other teachers in the program/discipline
• Initiate and carry through with improvements to course contents and methods
• Employ a variety of instructional methods including but not limited to self-paced instruction, peer review, collaborative and small group learning, computer-based instruction, mastery learning, active learning
• Integrate educational technology to enhance and improve learning and instruction
• Provide frequent and timely feedback on student work products
• Link developmental content to college-level courses
• Select and review educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.
• Explain and demonstrate the logistics, use and benefits of online homework, tutorial and assessment systems and applications to students
• Develop and implement instructional strategies to help students memorize, recall, and retain important mathematical concepts.
• Assist in the review, redevelopment and continuous improvement of developmental math courses
• Offer varied delivery options that appeal to diverse learning styles and preference including (but not limited to) computer-assisted instruction; Internet-based; self-paced; distance learning; calculators; laboratories; small group instruction; learning communities; contextual learning; hands-on activities; problem-solving groups; peer review; on-line interaction linkages to and examples from the workplace; and career pathways.
• Evaluate student learning utilizing a variety of assessment strategies
• Maintain and submit records of students’ performance.
• Gather and analyze student outcomes data.
• Continually assess and monitor student motivation and learning, understanding learning strengths and weaknesses and using available resources to enhance students’ learning

(Academic Advising and Support)
• Assist in orientation and registration of students
• Advise and mentor students
• Promote test taking strategies and study skills
• Meet and assist students during office hours, by appointment or at other reasonable times

(Administration)
• Participate actively in development of Departmental policies and procedures.
• Participate in College committees
• Participate in student recruitment
• Keep regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students)
• Participate in traditional functions which have academic significance
