Job Description:
The Curriculum Specialist is a full-time faculty position (12 months) with responsibility for the oversight of current and future curricula (both face to face and online) of his or her assigned degree programs within the School of Adult and Professional Studies. The person holding this position is required to work individually and with faculty subject matter experts to keep the curriculum content current with trends and theory of the discipline. This includes making corrections or additions as necessary to the current course material. The position also includes at least 6 units of assigned teaching each contract year.


Responsibilities:

  • • Write lesson plans that are consistent with established formats and that can be understood and taught by others.
  • • Work with Faculty Subject Matter Experts (SMES) in the related discipline field of each module/program to determine the current thinking and trends.
  • • Rewriting and updating the current courses as needed. Extensive rewrites of courses are undertaken one course at a time. Less extensive changes to courses are made as required as they are prepared for new cohorts.
  • • Work with full-time APS faculty and adjunct instructors to help them understand the curriculum materials, course objectives and activities, faith integration strategies, and the scope and sequence of the School’s programs.
  • • Work with subject matter experts when new majors develop; participate in the curriculum design: adapting content, activities, and assessment to the established format used by the School for its instructor and student materials.
  • • Teach at least 6 units each contract year as part of load.
  • • Maintain a line of scholarship which may include participating in the School’s research agenda and/or contributing to the field relevant to the assignment by attending and presenting at conferences.
  • • Maintain communication and rapport with faculty and APS staff.
  • • Coordinate curriculum activities with the other Curriculum Specialist, Program Directors and with the Associate Director of Operations to ensure timely delivery of course materials to APS students.
  • • Participate in faculty governance.


    Level:

    Assistant Professor to Professor, dependent on experience and degree.


    Qualifications:
    Master’s degree in Education, Adult or Continuing Education or Business and/or equivalent combination of experience and education. (Ph.D. preferred, background in Curriculum development/design desired.)


    Experience:
    Minimum of five years of university/college teaching or related experience. Experience in adult education and learning desired. The applicant must have a thorough understanding of curriculum development and lesson plans. Experience with online course development is preferred.


    Workload:
    Minimum 40 hour workweek with additional evening and weekend teaching a possibility. Candidate should have strong writing, teaching and interpersonal skills, ability to work with faculty, a demonstration of professionalism with high regard for the integrity of the program.

  • • Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
  • • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
