Job Description Summary:
The Telecommunications Administrator is an experienced technician possessing diagnostic and troubleshooting skills relative to telephony and networking support issues to include VoIP and analog telephone sets, soft telephony, connectivity issues, peripheral equipment, routers, switches, system changes, and the installation, monitoring and reporting of hardware and software for all supported systems. Provides feedback essential to IT management’s decision-making process as relates to Telecommunications Group projects. Daily interaction and assistance in IP-related Telephony within the Networking unit. Support VoIP related issues/requests from four other universities in the University System of Georgia which utilize our services.
Four (4) years’ experience in PC hardware, software, networking, or telephony systems at an enterprise level.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking as well as an advanced understanding of desktop hardware, operating systems, and network connectivity.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, and project support skills; excellent logic and reasoning skills and the ability to work in a self-guided environment.
Demonstrated ability to work in and promote an environment of outstanding customer service and teamwork, as well as ability to work independently on projects and VoIP related tasks.
Ability to professionally represent the University as the support person for other institutions that connect into our phone system.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work in fostering a team environment dedicated to outstanding customer service.
Demonstrated ability to promote and adopt best practices.
Demonstrated ability to create project plans.
Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 40 lbs.
Seven (7) years experience with PC hardware, software, networking, and/or telephony systems at an enterprise level.
Significant knowledge of IP and/or analog telephone systems.
Five years experience with a Cisco or Avaya VoIP system.
Essential Duties Summary :
Independently claims and resolves technical service issues from the IT work order system to include: VoIP telephone sets, soft telephony, connectivity issues, peripheral equipment, system changes, and the installation, monitoring, reporting and use of hardware and operating software for all supported systems.
Serves as the main VoIP programmer for the Avaya System.
Serve as the main point of contact and support liaison for the other universities that utilize our Avaya system and AVST voicemail platform.
Assists the Telecommunications Support Team in, but not limited to, the installation and troubleshooting of telephone systems, networking.
Assists the Enterprise Applications Team with the support of specialized software packages and services for individual departments/units’ telephony needs.
Assists the Networking Team with the support of campus infrastructure, including routers and switches, necessary for successful telephony operation.
Provides training and project-based supervision for student employees as directed.
Creates documentation, decision trees, procedural manuals, and other print and web-based materials for telephony software and hardware support.
Evaluates user needs and assists departments in configuring telephony systems and peripheral purchases.
Assists in VoIP billing and budgeting.
Maintain current level of patching, security settings on all VoIP equipment.
Serve as main point of contact for phone system resolution.
Monitor the Phone system for potential issues and security breaches.
Supports local AT&T analog installs on campus.
Monitors Elevator and other emergency phones for uptime.
