Job Description Summary:
The Director of University Housing & Residence Life provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for a dynamic residence life system comprised of 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students living in a freshman residence hall and on-campus apartments.
Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience working in residential education, housing property/facilities management, and with students, faculty and staff on a university campus.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and success regarding financial, physical and human resource management; crises management; strategic planning; and cross-divisional collaboration to develop opportunities and solve problems.
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience in live-in/live-on on a college campus required.
This is a full-time live out position that requires after hours availability for crisis response as needed.
At least seven years of experience in housing/residence life operations with evidence of increasing responsibility.
Demonstrated commitment and experience in developing programs that contribute to the academic and personal success of students.
Essential Duties Summary :
Plan, direct, and administer strategic, operational and fiscal activities for student housing. Provide leadership and direction in the management of programmatic and educational efforts with students.
Provide leadership and supervision to Housing and Residence Life department staffed with 12 full-time and graduate-level staff and approximately 45 undergraduate student staff.
Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. Ensure staff receives on-going, documented training on relevant issues.
Collaborate with the Office of Judicial Affairs and other departments regarding the adjudication of student code and housing policy violations and adherence to student rights and responsibilities.
Serve as a member of the university’s Behavioral Assessment Team to address students of concern proactively through interventions and observations as deemed necessary.
Build collaborative relationships with staff in Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Plant Operations, University Police and campus student leaders.
Work cooperatively with Plant Operations and University Police to ensure safe, clean and well-maintained communities and properties with a viable and responsive on-call communication system.
Closely monitor department expenditures. Prepare reports of actual costs against budgeted costs, forecasting, and reconciliations.
Develop and oversee residential communities that utilize best practices in student development and research to create engaging learning and living communities.
Develop and maintain awareness of community issues for students in the residence halls through communication with staff and initiate efforts to respond to such issues.
Collaborate broadly with campus departments and the local community to create living/learning environments that support student academic success and personal growth.
Collaborate with appropriate leadership to implement a strategic marketing plan to effectively communicate benefits and desirability of on campus housing.
