Appalachian State University seeks an experienced leader, effective communicator, and skilled project manager to fill the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO). Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor who is also the Provost, the CIO is responsible for working with the Appalachian community to develop and implement strategic IT plans and for managing key campus IT resources and services. This individual will provide vision and senior leadership for the development, coordination, and use of technology to enable essential innovation in research, learning, and administrative processes.
The CIO's scope of work:
• Nurture and advance a shared IT infrastructure for campus that is agile and capable of anticipating and embracing new technologies.
• Identify, define and implement an appropriate funding and sourcing model for IT services with consideration for emerging technologies, including central, distributed, and/or externally-provided cloud services.
• Promote adaptive and technical change across campus through effective communication and collaboration and with a focus on organizational innovation and improvements in service quality and efficiency with careful attention to teaching and research.
• Enhance information sharing, analytics, and data to facilitate data-driven administrative decision- and policy-making.
Minimum qualifications: an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and 5 years of management experience in information technology. Strongly preferred: an earned graduate degree, 10 years of experience in IT related fields, and experience in higher education.
Qualities of competitive applicants: Considerable experience working within complex organizations in relevant technology areas, as well as providing strategic and innovative thinking is desirable. The candidate should also have demonstrated experience with the development and implementation of new delivery models, balancing central and distributed services, and knowledge of the impact of emerging technology on teaching and learning.
