The Department of Communication & Mass Media seeks a dynamic, collegial and collaborative department chair who will enable us to continue to build excellent undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate will be dedicated, visionary, and possess the leadership skills necessary to help guide our growing department in an ever-changing field with 14 full-time faculty and about 250 undergraduate majors.
The department chair normally assumes a 2/2 teaching load in the long semesters and 1 course for each of two summer sessions at the graduate or undergraduate level.

The chair, in cooperation with the faculty, is responsible for supervising activities of the department, scheduling classes, assisting in faculty evaluations, preparing budget requests, initiating appointment recommendations, developing the curriculum, and supervising assessment activities. The successful applicant will be committed to open and active communication with colleagues, possess strong organizational skills, and understand that one of his or her primary duties will be to ensure that faculty have the resources needed to excel in the areas of teaching, research, and service. Candidates should be dedicated to excellence in teaching, with a strong commitment to high professional standards, both inside and outside the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
We seek a colleague with the scholarly credentials and publication record that would qualify him or her for a tenurable rank position at the associate or full professor rank. Previous administrative experience will be given greater consideration.
Candidates must have a doctorate in Communication or Mass Communications or closely related field and have an outstanding record of teaching and research.
