Nature of Work: The incumbent reports to the director of University Communications and is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies to support the established performance goals and objectives of internal clients, as well as the University's strategic plan. The incumbent is also responsible for developing the concept and copy for University publications and the communications deliverables outlined in the client's communications strategy and facilitating all outsourced communications needs including video, photography, graphic design and printing.
Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field and one to three years experience in internal communications, marketing communications, journalism, or public relations required; proven ability to write for a variety of audiences and publications; proven knowledge of interviewing techniques/skills; excellent written and oral communications skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills; Quark Express, Photoshop, Illustrator experience is a plus; general knowledge of design, layout, and desktop publishing.
Testing Requirements:
Illustrative Examples of Work: Develops and manages comprehensive communications strategies for internal clients to support performance objectives, initiatives, programs and events aligned with the University's strategic plan; initiates research and prepares copy for communications deliverables included in client communications strategies such as brochures, news articles, press releases, speeches, flyers, advertisements, manuals, invitations, letters, memos, self-mailers, newsletters, magazines, websites, etc.; coordinates and facilitates all outsourced communications needs for clients including video, photography, graphic design and printing; schedules and conducts monthly meeting with clients to discuss communications needs, strategies, status of projects and upcoming events; provides follow-up to clients and management team which includes, but is not limited to, preparing and submitting weekly client meeting summaries and communication strategy updates; prepares news releases and media advisories; pitches story ideas to media representatives; advises University Communications Director and staff of client's upcoming events/activities and status of communications strategies; performs other duties as required.
