Founded in 1952, Adler School of Professional Psychology is the oldest independent school of psychology in North America. The School is named after Alfred Adler (1870-1937), the first community psychologist, who was the first to do group counseling, family counseling, and public mental health education, and who began community, preventative, and positive psychologies. Adler School is committed to continuing the work of Alfred Adler by producing socially responsible graduates, by providing holistic services to individuals and communities, and by promoting social justice.
Our innovative program curricula prepare socially responsible practitioners by promoting social justice through education and training. The School offers a doctoral program in clinical psychology, accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), and five master's programs in behavioral sciences and services, including a recently launched master's program in police psychology, the first of its kind in the country. The School is also accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Adler School's commitment to social responsibility draws students from all over the world who wish to study in a collaborative atmosphere with accomplished clinical faculty. The School attracts both recent college graduates and working professionals, and offers significant cultural diversity by attracting the best students the world has to offer. The Adler Student Association represents many different countries and encourages all students to celebrate their heritage through on- and off-campus learning activities.
The Adler School faculty blends the best of two worlds: theory and practice. Faculty members include a mix of experienced, practicing clinicians and instructors in sociology, political science, law, urban planning and similar fields, to provide the interdisciplinary education needed to train socially responsible practitioners. All faculty members are dedicated to our educational programs with a genuine commitment to training and community service.
Adler School is committed to pursuing social responsibility through service to communities and offers practica at hundreds of sites across the United States and Canada. The School also provides internships (accredited by the APA), at its on-site clinic, the Dreikurs Psychological Services Center, allowing students to gain real world skills by serving a diverse population. Adler School also offers a Community Service Practicum (CSP) - an exciting new educational experience for students. Available in the first year curriculum for Adler School students, this unique practicum allows students to get involved in community organizing, volunteer projects, political initiatives, advocacy and public policy analysis.
